Job summary

KV Capital is seeking a Fund Accountant, Private Equity, in Edmonton, to manage accounting records, prepare financial statements, and support audits. Reporting to the CFO, you will work with a third‑party fund administrator and contribute to timely investor reporting and tax compliance.

You will prepare monthly/annual statements under IFRS/ASPE, assist with budgets, cash flow forecasts, and capital calls, and maintain strong controls in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA designation preferred (in process or completed).
  • 2+ years of accounting experience in PE or related field.
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accounting records for funds and entities, reconcile accounts, and liaise with third-party administrator.
  • Manage accounts payable, review invoices, process payments, and issue remittance advices.
  • Handle payroll for funds, quarterly payroll for Board, tax filings, ROEs, and T4s for directors.

Fund I is a niche fund focused on manufacturing and distribution businesses in the RV space, currently in its exit stage. Fund II is a generalist fund focused on distribution companies in non-real estate sectors, currently in its hold stage. Fund III is a strategic real estate-adjacent fund, targeting companies that manufacture and distribute building products, currently in deployment.

Real Estate Equity Partners (“EQP”)

Launched in 2022, KV’s EQP business provides equity to experienced real estate developers across Western Canada. Currently, we manage investor capital across two funds, both of which invest in mid-size “build and sell” real estate projects. Fund I and II are fully committed.

POSITION Fund Accountant, Private Equity

YOUR OPPORTUNITY

The Fund Accountant will play a pivotal role in our private equity funds, involved in all aspects of accounting and reporting, including management and Board reporting of financial statements, investor reporting, year-end audits, cash flow forecasting, and tax reporting. Reporting directly to the CFO, you will also work closely with a third-party fund administrator. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in accounting, excellent analytical skills, a high level of attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate will be driven, collaborative, hard-working, and eager to contribute to KV Capital’s continued success.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Maintain the accounting records of the funds and their related entities by inputting financial transactions, reconciling accounts, and communicating with the third-party fund administrator as required. Manage accounts payable for the funds, including reviewing invoices for accuracy, processing payments, and distributing remittance advices to vendors. Perform all necessary payroll functions for the funds, including quarterly payroll for the Board of Directors, payroll deduction remittances and tax filings, and the preparation and issuance of ROEs and T4s to directors. Prepare monthly and annual financial statements for the various funds in compliance with IFRS and ASPE. Assist in the preparation of quarterly reporting packages for distribution to investors, creditors and the Board of Directors. Prepare monthly cash flow forecasts for the funds, monitor cash reserve balances, and identify capital call requirements for future periods. Assist in preparing the annual budget and quarterly reforecasts for the funds and Private Equity division by gathering information, preparing supporting schedules, and reviewing assumptions for accuracy. Calculate portfolio and investor returns and report key return metrics to management on a quarterly basis. Review net asset value, income allocation, and fee calculations prepared by the third-party fund administrator. Coordinate interim and year-end fieldwork with the external auditors, action audit support requests, and coordinate with portfolio company personnel to ensure the timely completion of portfolio company audits Support tax compliance for the funds and related entities, calculating year-end tax estimates, preparing supporting working papers, reviewing T2 and T5013 returns prepared by the external tax advisors, preparing internal T2 returns, and preparing quarterly GST returns. Respond to ad hoc inquiries from investors and internal partners including the investor relations, legal and commercial teams. Assist with other tasks and projects as needed.

YOUR CAPABILITIES AND CREDENTIALS

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation preferred (in process or completed – note this position will provide qualified hours for CPA candidates). 2+ years of work experience in accounting functions, preferably within private equity or public accounting. Strong understanding and knowledge of accounting principles, financial processes, and controls. Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop financial analysis and reporting efficiently and accurately. A strong attention to detail and ability to multitask effectively and meet tight deadlines. Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure, entrepreneurial environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and take initiative and follow through on work assignments Advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite, with a demonstrated expertise in Excel.
