Job summary

Recruiting In Motion - Eastern Ontario is seeking an Intermediate Accountant for a 12-month term based in Ottawa/Gatineau, with a hybrid work model (4 days onsite, 1 day remote). The role involves supporting monthly to annual close, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting within a multinational environment.

The ideal candidate has a minimum of 2 years’ full-cycle accounting experience, a bachelor’s degree in accounting, and is pursuing CPA with plans to sit the CFE within 12

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent practical experience.
  • Active progression toward CPA with plans to write the CFE within the next 12 months.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to consistently meet tight deadlines, particularly during month-end and quarter-end close cycles.
  • Highly organized and adaptable, comfortable managing competing priorities within a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, applying sound professional judgment under pressure, along with clear and effective communication abilities.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, including functions such as VLOOKUPs and pivot tables, is essential, along with the ability to quickly learn new financial systems.
  • Familiarity with IFRS and/or US GAAP and experience working within publicly listed organizations in Canada or the U.S is highly desirable.
  • This role requires a high level of flexibility, including the ability to work additional hours during peak periods, and a commitment to working onsite a minimum of four days per week to support collaboration and team effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close for a portfolio of entities.
  • Prepare and post general journal entries and maintain complete and accurate financial records.
  • Perform general ledger reconciliations and investigate variances.
  • Analyze financial results through balance sheet and income statement variances.
  • Prepare internal financial reporting packages for management review.
  • Account for PPE transactions and CWIP/fixed asset schedules.
  • Assist in budgets and forecasts with cross-functional teams.
  • Support external audits and respond to auditor requests.
  • Apply appropriate accounting treatments per standards.
  • Maintain up-to-date financial reporting documentation.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities and help design efficient workflows.
  • Execute internal control procedures and ensure policy/governance compliance.

Additional Notes: Our client is seeking an Intermediate Accountant for a 12-month term to join their collaborative finance team within the business services group. This role offers the opportunity to gain exposure to a complex, multinational environment while supporting core accounting functions and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.


Key Responsibilities


  • Support the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes for a portfolio of entities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of reporting

  • Prepare and post general journal entries and maintain complete and accurate financial records, including ledgers, registers, and supporting documentation

  • Perform detailed general ledger reconciliations and investigate variances, including intercompany balances and chargeback discrepancies

  • Analyze financial results through balance sheet and income statement variance analysis, providing insights to support decision-making

  • Prepare and contribute to internal financial reporting packages for management review

  • Account for property, plant, and equipment (PPE) transactions, including additions, disposals, and maintenance of construction-in-progress (CWIP) and fixed asset schedules

  • Assist in the preparation of budgets and forecasts, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders

  • Support external audit processes, including preparation of schedules and responding to auditor requests

  • Research and apply appropriate accounting treatments for routine transactions in accordance with applicable standards

  • Maintain and enhance financial reporting documentation, ensuring processes are clearly defined and up to date

  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and support the design and implementation of more efficient workflows

  • Execute internal control procedures and ensure compliance with established policies and governance frameworks


Ideal Candidate
