Job summary

A leading energy company in Sarnia is seeking an experienced Instrumentation Engineer to support FEED and brownfield/greenfield projects. About the job

Kent is looking for an Instrumentation Engineer to support upcoming FEED and brownfield/greenfield scopes for client proposals. The ideal candidate brings strong hands‑on instrumentation experience, solid troubleshooting capability, and the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.

Responsibilities
  • Instrumentation Engineering & Technical Support – Provide technical troubleshooting support for instrumentation and control system issues; Assist with root cause analyses and development of corrective actions; Review instrumentation design packages, engineering deliverables, and applicable standards; Support field verifications, constructability reviews, and final walkdowns.
  • Procedure & Documentation Development – Prepare and review documentation in alignment with client standards and regulatory requirements; Support continuous improvement initiatives within instrumentation workflows and practices; Quality Assurance – Responsible for working within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance system.
  • Vendor & Field Liaison – Interface with vendors and contractors for technical clarifications; Conduct field verifications and walkdown as required for the projects; Review vendor documentation, test packages, FAT/SAT results, and technical data.
  • Reliability & Optimization – Support identification of recurring instrumentation issues; Assist with reliability improvements, upgrades, and modernization initiatives.
  • Reporting & Recordkeeping – Maintain engineering notes, troubleshooting logs, and technical documentation; Support weekly engineering progress and coordination reporting.
  • Internal & External Interface – Interface with client technical representatives as required; Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Ad‑hoc tasks – Perform other ad‑hoc tasks as needed or directed by the engineering lead, supervisor or management within the reasonable scope of the role. All tasks will be assigned considering workload and professional development.
Qualifications
  • Instrumentation Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with active registration with PEO, or able to obtain within 6 months.
  • 7+ years of instrumentation engineering experience.
  • Working knowledge of CSA codes, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with control systems, transmitters, analyzers, and instrument loop functionality.
  • FEED and brownfield/greenfield project experience.
Communication & Core Competencies
  • Strong English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Ability to communicate technical information clearly within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Structured and analytical troubleshooting mindset.
  • Ability to work independently with appropriate supervision.
  • Strong collaboration skills within a growing engineering team.

Compensation

Hourly Range: $52.00/hr - $57.00/hr CAD. The hourly range reflects the expected compensation for this role and may vary based on skills, experience, and qualifications.
