Job summary

ErinoakKids is seeking an experienced Infant Hearing Screener to join the Infant Hearing Program (IHP). The role covers the western portion of the Central West region, including Guelph, Fergus, Kitchener/Waterloo and surrounding communities, with regular travel between community clinics and ErinoakKids sites.

You will provide newborn and infant hearing screenings, counsel families on results and next steps, and document findings in Caredove.

Qualifications

• Diploma or degree in a health-related field or related discipline.
• Direct experience performing Infant Hearing Program screenings preferred.
• Knowledge of Ontario Infant Hearing Program protocols and screening pathways.
• Experience using hearing screening equipment and related documentation systems.
• Excellent interpersonal and family-centred care skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct infant hearing screenings per Provincial Infant Hearing Program protocols.
• Provide clear counselling to families on results and follow-up steps.
• Maintain accurate documentation and data entry in Caredove.
• Coordinate with CSS for community-based screening clinics.

Casual Position until March 27, 2027 Halton site Work Arrangement: Community New Position Compensation Range: $31.64 - $37.03/hour

Position Summary

ErinoakKids is seeking an experienced Infant Hearing Screener to join the Infant Hearing Program (IHP). Reporting to the Clinical Services Supervisor (CSS), the successful candidate will be responsible for providing newborn hearing screening services throughout the western portion of the Central West region, including Guelph, Fergus, Kitchener /Waterloo and surrounding communities. This position requires regular travel between community clinics, partner locations, and EOK sites. The successful candidate must be highly organized, able to work independently with minimal supervision, and comfortable managing a mobile caseload across multiple sites. The Infant Hearing Screener provides hearing screening services to infants and young children in accordance with Provincial Infant Hearing Program protocols. The role includes family counselling regarding screening outcomes, documentation, equipment management, administrative support functions, and collaboration with the CSS for the coordination of community-based screening clinics.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct infant hearing screenings in accordance with Provincial Infant Hearing Program protocols
• Provide clear and compassionate counselling to families regarding hearing screening results, follow-up recommendations, and next steps
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation and data entry in Caredove
• Close coordination with CSS of community-based screening clinics throughout the region
• Ensure screening equipment is maintained, transported, and used according to established procedures
• Collaborate with hospital and community partners to support timely access to hearing screening services
• Adhere to ErinoakKids policies, health and safety practices, and privacy requirements
• Travel regularly throughout the west region of Central West, including Guelph, Fergus, Kitchener, Waterloo and surrounding communities, as well as at EOK sites as needed

Qualifications

Required

• Diploma or degree in a health-related field, Child and Youth Care, Early Childhood Education, Communicative Disorders Assistant program, or related discipline
• Direct experience performing Infant Hearing Program hearing screenings is strongly preferred
• Knowledge of Ontario Infant Hearing Program protocols and screening pathways
• Experience using hearing screening equipment and related documentation systems
• Demonstrated experience working with infants, children, and families in a healthcare or community setting
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and family-centred care skills
• Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
• Proficiency with electronic documentation systems for Caredove and Microsoft Office applications
• Valid Ontario Driver’s License and access to a reliable vehicle for regular travel throughout the region
• Ability to work independently and effectively manage competing priorities across multiple clinic locations

Preferred

• Previous experience working in community-based or mobile health service delivery programs

Preference will be given to candidates with direct Infant Hearing Program screening experience and demonstrated knowledge of newborn hearing screening processes.
