Job summary

Cowan Insurance Group is seeking a motivated Business Auditor to join our team in Canada. Reporting to the Senior Business Auditor, the role focuses on planning, executing, reporting, and following up on operational audits and quality assurance reviews across commercial and personal insurance.

You will evaluate files, workflows, and controls to ensure regulatory and insurer compliance while delivering actionable improvements.

Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years Personal and Commercial Insurance experience
• RIBO license is preferred
• CAIB or CIP designation an asset
• Post-secondary education in Insurance or Business Administration, with coursework in audit, compliance or insurance considered an asset
• Internal/external audit experience or equivalent preferably in a property and casualty insurance setting
• Strong analytical skills an asset
• Ability to work independently, and balance multiple priorities and project deadlines
• A well-defined sense of diplomacy, strong communication skills - both written and verbal
• Computer literacy, including effective working skills of MS Word, Excel and Outlook required
• Experience with EPIC broker management system an asset

Responsibilities

• Conduct risk-based operational audits and file reviews to assess compliance with regulatory requirements, insurer guidelines, brokerage workflows, internal policies, and documentation standards
• Assessing and evaluate business, operational, compliance, and errors & omissions (E&O) risks within Commercial and/or Personal Insurance operations, understanding business risks related to client files
• Examine brokerage files and supporting records for completeness, accuracy, quality, and adherence to established procedures and controls
• Document audit observations, analyze root causes, and develop practical recommendations to strengthen controls, improve quality, and mitigate risk
• Prepare clear and concise audit reports, including findings, recommendations, and opportunities for continuous improvement
• Collaborate with business leaders, trainers, and operational teams to support process improvements and enhance operational effectiveness
• Identify opportunities to streamline workflows, improve client service delivery, and increase operational efficiency
• Maintain audit documentation and working papers in accordance with departmental standards and audit methodology
• Support special reviews, business initiatives, and projects related to risk management, compliance, operational excellence, and continuous improvement
