Role Title:Human Resources Generalist

Status:Permanent, Full Time

Hours:37.5 hours per week

Reports To:Senior Director

Location:Hybrid, within Niagara Region

Annual Salary:$47,495 - $67,264

Overview of Role:

People matter at Hospice Niagara. Our focus is on supporting the end-of-life journey by providing continuous, person-centered care while advancing knowledge and partnerships within Niagara. Hospice Niagara is in search of a Human Resources Generalist to support our HR department in ensuring smooth and efficient operations.

Reporting to the Senior Director, the HR Generalist contributes to building a high performance culture that emphasizes individual and team development, quality, productivity, and adherence to legislation, policies, and standards.

This position plays a key role in embedding equity, inclusion, accessibility, and anti-racism practices across all human resources functions. Key Responsibilities:

Payroll & Benefits Administration

· Completes payroll processing, including; bi-weekly and semi-monthly updates to employee files, bonus/incentive pay, tracking vacation/sick pay, inputting exceptions, and hourly employee validations.

· Assisting employees with timely enrollment in the group benefits program, updating employee changes, providing guidance on processing claims and answering basic inquiries about the plan.Reconciles monthly billing and ensures appropriate payroll deductions are set up.

·Administering and coordinating leaves of absence, workplace insurance claims. Accommodations (including disability-related and religious), and return to work plans with employees and insurance partners.

Recruitment & Onboarding

·Coordinating and participating in recruitment, selection, and orientation of new employees.This includes posting career opportunities, pre-screening candidates, arranging interviews with hiring managers and completing reference and background checks.

·Collaborating with the Sr. Director, People & Performance and the hiring managers to identify success metrics and onboarding plans for all new employees.

· Prepare documentation, schedule, and facilitate a smooth new hire onboarding process, coordinating with cross-functional departments to deliver an exceptional first-day experience.

·Promotes equitable and barrier-free recruitment practices that reduce bias and encourage the hiring of individuals from underrepresented and marginalized communities.

Labour Relations

·Being the first point of contact for general human resources matters, in a confidential, collaborative, and accountable way, including employee relations, disability management, etc.

·Assist in the communication, interpretation, and upkeep of policies and procedures, collective agreement and organizational chart.

·Responsible for tracking grievance and labour relations matters, as needed.Supporting the Senior Director in related research and analytics.

·Suggest new procedures and policies to continually improve efficiency of the HR department and organization as a whole, and to improve employee experience.

·Support the rollout of other HR department related initiatives and communications.

·Ensures all HR practices are guided by trauma-informed, culturally safe, and inclusive approaches that promote employee well-being and psychological safety.

Other Information

·As a member of the human resources team, the HR Generalist:

oSupports employee wellness programs by planning and leading committee meetings and communications

oSupports the ongoing equity initiatives within the organization by planning committee meetings and education opportunities

·Raising positive community awareness of hospice palliative care and of the programs and services provided by Hospice Niagara.

·Demonstrating personal initiative and participation in other aspects of working for a non-profit organization, including participating in organizational events and fundraising activities.

·Other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications:

·3-5 years of related experience

·Member in good standing with HRPA and a CHRP or designation required.

·Post-secondary education in Human Resources

·Bilingual (English/French) strongly preferred

·Experience in a unionized environment required

·Payroll administration experience required, experience with ADP Workforce Now is an asset

·Experience in non-profit or healthcare organizations is an asset

·Excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, commitment to equity, ethics, and cultural awareness required

·Experience in full cycle recruitment and onboarding of new employees required

·Resourceful, problem-solving aptitude and thorough knowledge of HR procedures and policies and employment legislation required

·Advanced knowledge of MS Office, HRMS systems, and comfortable learning new technical systems as needed
