Job Title: Human Resource Business Partner

Location: Acheson, Alberta

Company: OCTS

Overland Container Transportation Services (OCTS) has proudly served Western Canada since 1989, when it was founded with a clear vision: to provide Alberta with safe, reliable, and customer focused container transportation. More than three decades later, we remain rooted in that legacy while continuing to grow, diversify, and lead.

Today, OCTS offers a comprehensive suite of intermodal services, including container drayage, repair, storage, warehousing, and transloading. We operate from both Canadian National and CPKC terminals in Calgary and Edmonton, serving clients across Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. As one of Alberta’s largest container drayage providers, we’re proud to be the “first and last mile” partner for many of the world’s leading steamship lines and freight companies.

At OCTS, we hire for passion, integrity, and experience. Our team is committed to delivering world class service and we’re looking for talented individuals ready to grow with us as we build on our legacy and shape the future of intermodal transportation in Western Canada.

Come roll with a carrier that puts people first.

This is a hands-on, standalone role, ideal for a strategic individual who thrives in entrepreneurial environments. The successful candidate will have strong business acumen, experience building HR foundations from the ground up, and a passion for scaling teams to support organizational growth.

• Drive continuous improvement across HR practices and employee experiences.

Business Partnership

• Serve as a strategic advisor to senior leadership on organizational design, talent development, and workforce strategies.

• Provide insight and alignment with broader business goals. Build scalable HR infrastructure, programs, and systems to meet current and future organizational needs. • Manage and analyze exit interviews to deliver actionable insights that strengthen retention strategies and enhance the employee experience.

Recruitment & Onboarding

• Lead full-cycle recruitment and workforce planning to support growth.

• Deliver structured, consistent onboarding programs across the business. • Act as the first point of contact for all employee HR-related inquiries.

• Champion a responsive, supportive employee service culture.

Compensation, Compliance & Best Practices

• Design and manage competitive, cost-effective compensation structures and salary bands. • Draft and implement HR policies, procedures, and employee handbooks to support compliance, culture, and consistency.

• Ensure HR documentation, processes, and employee practices meet legislative requirements and align with HR best practices across Western Canada

Qualifications & Experience

• 7+ years of progressive HR experience in a generalist or HR business partner role. • Proven ability to lead recruitment, onboarding, policy development, and employee service functions.

• Strong track record of operational excellence and fiscally responsible HR practices. • Experience supporting organizations through business growth and scaling phases. • High business acumen with the ability to align HR initiatives with organizational objectives.

• Ability to work independently with a proactive mindset, maintain confidentiality with discretion, and build effective systems from the ground up.

• Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

• MBA or equivalent business-focused graduate degree.

• CHRP or CPHR designation (or working toward certification).
