Job summary

St. Joseph’s Health System seeks a Telecommunications Telecommunicator to support the hospital’s 24/7 switchboard and paging services. You will process calls, page personnel, and assist with codes while upholding hospital procedures and confidentiality.

The role requires a Grade 12 education, at least 6 months in a switchboard environment, and proficiency with Windows/MS Office. Strong interpersonal skills and accuracy are essential for this fast-paced, critical position.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 education or equivalent required.
• Minimum of 6 months related experience working in a switchboard, preferably in healthcare.
• Proficiency with Windows-based systems including MS Office, internet and intranet searches.
• Typing 35 wpm (subject to testing).
• Knowledge of hospital terminology, services, personnel and processes preferred.
• Emergency Responders course would be considered a strong asset.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills with ability to work in a team and independently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Answer main hospital telephone lines and emergency lines.
• Process calls accurately and courteously; use PC directory and paging system.
• Maintain on-call schedules and assist with on-call rooms and keys.
• Monitor fire panels, gas and building alarms; respond to inquiries and codes.
• Provide information desk support and assist staff, patients, vendors and visitors.
