Job summary

Atlantic Road Construction & Paving in HRM is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to join our growing team. You will operate heavy equipment on ARCP job sites under the supervision of the Site Foreman, adhering to safety policies and quality standards, performing routine maintenance and reporting issues promptly.

The ideal candidate has a strong mechanical aptitude, good time management, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a busy environment.

Qualifications

• Must have solid understanding of construction, maintenance techniques, and safe equipment use.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to perform routine maintenance.
• Capable of finish grade work and sewer/water installations when required.

Responsibilities

• Check equipment before operation to ensure safety and proper function.
• Adhere to safety policies and regulatory requirements on site.
• Report unsafe conditions or injuries to supervisor immediately.
• Maintain clean and accurate maintenance reports and documentation.
• Operate equipment and communicate with crew to coordinate loading/unloading.

Job description

Atlantic Road Construction & Paving is a well established heavy civil construction company specializing in mass excavation, drilling and blasting, pipe and underground utility, concrete placement and asphalt paving. We are currently looking to hire experienced Excavator Operators to join our growing team in the HRM. Reporting to the Site Foreman, the successful candidate will be responsible for operating heavy equipment on ARCP job sites.

Requirements:

• 3 years operating heavy equipment preferred, however we are willing to train candidates with less experience.
• Solid understanding of construction, maintenance techniques & how to safely use equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Capable and confident doing finish grade work, water & sewer installation, and working in tight spaces.
• Effective time management skills with the ability to manage many tasks.
• Possess a positive attitude and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Heavy Equipment Operator trade certification considered an asset.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Check equipment before operating to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency components are in good working order.
• Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulation, and compliance.
• Communicate any unsafe conditions or accident/injuries immediately to the supervisor.
• Demonstrate continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service.
• Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work as required.
• Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
• Maneuver trucks/heavy equipment into loading or unloading positions, follow signals from crew members as needed, check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
• Operate equipment such as mobile radios and telephones to exchange necessary information to supervisors or other operators.
• Ensure that any debris caused by loading/unloading of equipment is cleaned up.
• Other duties as required
