Job summary

Atlantic Road Construction & Paving in Nova Scotia is seeking a qualified Heavy Equipment Operator to support a project in Lunenburg through 2026. You will operate rock trucks and excavators, perform routine maintenance, and help ensure safe, efficient site operations during long-term work.

Candidates should have a valid Class 5 license and reliable transportation; heavy equipment certification is a bonus. The role requires good time management, the ability to work with minimal supervision, and

Qualifications

• Experience operating a rock truck or excavator.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Valid class 5 driver’s license and reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Heavy Equipment Operator certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Check equipment before operating to ensure safety and operational readiness.
• Perform maintenance tasks such as cleaning and lubricating as required.
• Load trucks with soil, gravel, and other materials using the excavator.
• Excavate trenches for utilities, drainage, and foundations.
• Prepare rough grading and leveling as needed.
• Keep accurate reports and documentation.
• Report unsafe conditions or incidents to supervisor immediately.
• Adhere to safety policies and regulations.
• Other duties as required.

Atlantic Road Construction & Paving is a large heavy civil construction company specializing in heavy civil excavation and flatworks, pipeline placement, concrete placement, and asphalt paving. Our team has a project ongoing inLunenburg, NSand is expected to run through all of 2026. We are looking to hire qualified individuals that live within a reasonable commute to our jobsite to join our team for the duration of the project.

Requirements

• Experience operating a rock truck or excavator.
• Solid understanding of construction, maintenance techniques & how to safely use equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to perform routine equipment maintenance.
• Valid class 5 drivers license and reliable transportation to and from the worksite.
• Effective time management skills with the ability to manage many tasks.
• Possess a positive attitude and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Heavy Equipment Operator trade certification considered an asset.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Check equipment before operating to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency components are in good working order.
• Clean, lubricate, and perform other maintenance work as required.
• Use the excavator to load trucks with soil, gravel and other materials.
• Excavate precise trenches for utilities, drainage systems, and foundations.
• Perform rough grading and leveling as necessary.
• Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
• Communicate any unsafe conditions or accident/injuries immediately to the supervisor.
• Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulation, and compliance.
• Other duties as required.
