Job summary

Atlantic Road Construction & Paving in HRM is seeking a reliable dump truck driver to operate twin steer or tandem dump trucks, transporting construction materials to and from job sites around HRM.

Reporting to the Transportation Manager, the successful candidate will perform pre-trip inspections, follow safety policies, document duties, and maintain equipment in good condition while working Monday to Friday, with potential Saturdays.

Qualifications

  • Valid class 1 or class 3 license is required.
  • Clean driving abstract is required.
  • Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles.
  • Candidate must be reliable and punctual.
  • Ability to drive safely in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Check equipment before operating to ensure safety components are in good order.
  • Adhere to safety policies, regulations and compliance.
  • Communicate unsafe conditions or incidents to the supervisor promptly.
  • Improve operations and efficiency while delivering quality service.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance and keep records up to date.
  • Maneuver and position trucks for loading/unloading; follow crew signals.
  • Coordinate with supervisors using mobile radios to exchange information.
  • Ensure debris from loading/unloading is cleaned up.

Job description

Dump Truck Driver – Atlantic Road Construction & Paving

Atlantic Road Construction & Paving is a well established heavy civil construction company specializing in mass excavation, drilling & blasting, pipe & underground utility placement, concrete placement and asphalt paving. We are currently looking to hire reliable and experienced Class 1 or 3 Drivers to join our growing team and operate twin steer or tandem dump trucks. Reporting to the Transportation Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for transporting construction materials to and from job sites around the HRM in a safe and appropriate manner.

Requirements:
  • Valid class 1 or class 3 drivers license.
  • Clean drivers abstract.
  • License permitting operation of manual transmission vehicles and ability to do so required.
  • 3 years of commercial driving experience preferred.
  • Ability to operate vehicle in a safe manner in all weather conditions.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Check equipment before operating to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency components are in good working order.
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulation, and compliance.
  • Communicate any unsafe conditions or accident/injuries immediately to the supervisor.
  • Demonstrate continuous efforts to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes and work cooperatively to provide quality customer service.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other maintenance work as required.
  • Keep detailed and accurate reports and documentation.
  • Maneuver tandem or twin steer into loading or unloading positions, follow signals from crew members as needed, check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
  • Operate equipment such as mobile radios and telephones to exchange necessary information to supervisors or other operators.
  • Ensure that any debris caused by loading/unloading of equipment is cleaned up.
  • Available to work Monday to Friday (some Saturdays as required)
