Job Description

JOB TITLE: Heavy Equipment Mechanic

REPORTS TO: Service Manager/Shop Foreman/Service Advisor

HOURS AND PAY SCHEDULE: Normal hours are 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday. This position is non-exempt.

COMPANY OVERVIEW: Haaker Equipment Company employs roughly 90 employees across five branches in La Verne, Santee, Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Central Valley. We pride ourselves on providing top products and service in our industry. We empower our employees to make decisions that benefit our customers.

Job Summary

This role requires general mechanical experience. The individual will work under supervision to perform tasks, receive daily work assignments, and document all activities. Effective communication with customers and staff about repairs is essential.

Typical Responsibilities

• Perform repairs on customer equipment as directed, in various environments.
• Conduct Preventative Maintenance on customer and company equipment.
• Accurately report and track work hours.
• Complete repair orders efficiently and accurately.
• Diagnose and repair equipment issues.
• Select appropriate tools and equipment for repairs.
• Operate equipment to diagnose and perform repairs.
• Inspect equipment for additional issues.
• Position parts and tools safely, including lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Handle warranty parts and create parts lists for repairs.
• Read electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics.
• Communicate with supervisors about additional work or issues.
• Supervise apprentice technicians as assigned.
• Maintain 90% billable hours.
• Perform basic fabrication tasks as needed.
• Keep workspaces clean and organized.
• Stay updated with factory training and service bulletins.
• Follow safety policies and report issues.

Qualifications

• 2-5 years of experience with hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical systems, or heavy equipment maintenance.
• Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment.
• Identify component failures and perform quality repairs.
• Good communication skills with customers and staff.
• Ability to obtain a Class B license within 120 days.
• Clean driving record.
• Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in various positions.

Preferred Skills

• Over 5 years of relevant experience.
• Experience with our product lines.
