Job summary

Paladin Security is hiring a Casual Healthcare Security Guard to cover Smiths Falls Hospital, Perth Hospital, and Lanark County Mental Health. The role involves patrolling, patient monitoring, incident response, and enforcing policies, with shifts of 12 hours and flexible scheduling.

Applicants must be legally eligible to work in Canada, possess First Aid & CPR Level C, pass a Vulnerable Sector Check, and be able to meet N95 mask fit requirements.

Qualifications

• Fluent English communication skills, both spoken and written.
• Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check during onboarding.
• Availability for 2 to 3 12-hour shifts per week, flexibility to cross-train across all sites.

Position Overview

Position Title: Casual Healthcare Security Guard
Employment Type: Contract / Casual
Pay Rate: $18.35 - $21.69 per hour
Site: Smiths Falls Hospital, Perth Hospital, and Lanark County Mental Health
Schedule: Various 12-hour shifts (0700-1900 / 1900-0700), requiring flexible availability for 2 to 3 shifts per week

Site Overview

Working across Smiths Falls Hospital, Perth Hospital, and Lanark County Mental Health offers a meaningful role within supportive, community-focused healthcare settings. In this position, you help maintain a safe, compassionate environment for patients, medical staff, and visitors. What You'll Be Doing

• Conduct proactive interior and exterior security patrols, including during inclement weather.
• Monitor and supervise patients as needed to support hospital staff.
• Respond to incidents and emergencies calmly using effective verbal de-escalation and conflict management techniques.
• Investigate routine incidents and complete clear, accurate incident and end-of-shift reports.
• Enforce site policies, by-laws, parking rules, and non-smoking regulations.
• Coordinate with healthcare staff, site leadership, and Paladin management to meet daily operational needs.
• Work both independently and collaboratively as part of a site security team.
• Sit or stand for up to 12 hours per shift and participate in ongoing training.

Must Haves

• Legally authorized to work in Canada.
• Valid Standard First Aid & CPR Level C Certificate from a WSIB-approved provider.
• Fluent English communication skills, both spoken and written.
• Ability to pass a Vulnerable Sector Check during onboarding.
• Proof of a minimum of two COVID-19 vaccine doses along with complete immunization records (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Pertussis, Hepatitis B, and Step 1 & 2 TB Skin Tests).
• Ability to be clean-shaven to meet N95 Mask Fit Test requirements.
• Certifications in Use of Force (UoF) and Management of Aggressive Behaviour (MOAB), or willingness to complete Paladin's pre-requisite training program prior to onboarding (training costs covered by Paladin with a 6-month commitment).
• Availability for 2 to 3 12-hour shifts per week, flexibility to cross-train across all assigned sites, willingness to complete mandatory onboarding in Kingston, and ability to commit to the role for at least 6 months.
