Job summary

MacEwan University is seeking a full-time Grounds Worker for a 12-month non-recurring term to maintain campus grounds, handle winter response, and perform routine upkeep on equipment.

You will operate irrigation systems, perform landscape tasks, and ensure safety and compliance with WHMIS/OH&S regulations while collaborating with the Grounds Supervisor.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a grade 12 diploma.
• A minimum of one year landscape maintenance or relevant educational background.
• Experience using landscaping equipment: tractors, loaders, lawnmowers, trucks, woodchippers, road sweepers and hand power tools.
• A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License.
• Position is on campus only; flexible hours; WHMIS and OH&S knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Maintain campus grounds including litter pickup, mowing, pruning, transplanting, and irrigation operation.
• Perform repairs on mobile equipment and respond to winter weather conditions.
• Report unsafe conditions to Grounds Supervisor and assist with snow removal and safety practices.
• Maintain and troubleshoot equipment, perform routine maintenance and cleaning, and assist with spring cleanup.

MacEwan University is seeking a full-time Grounds Worker for a full-time 12-month non-recurring term opportunity with our Landscaping and Grounds department.

You will be responsible for maintaining safe and attractive environment areas for all campuses. You will provide twenty-four hour response to winter weather conditions. It is also your responsibility to perform duties by adhering to all safety regulations and safe work practices.

Key responsibilities include:

• Maintaining campus grounds by conducting litter and garbage pick-up, mowing grass, pruning, transplanting, replacing/propagating trees and shrubs, weeding flower beds, landscaping renovations, and operating the irrigation systems;
• Performing repairs on mobile equipment;
• Reporting unsafe conditions and hazards to the Grounds Supervisor;
• Performing duties of snow removal with machines and physical labour on the campus including sanding and/or applying chemicals;
• Conducting maintenance on the equipment common to the trade, such as cleaning, lubricating, fluid changes, tune-ups, adjustments, blade sharpening and preventative maintenance as well as trouble shooting;
• Pressure washing of hard landscape structures, such as bus shelters, stone walls and planters;
• Performing spring cleanup duties which include sweeping of parking lots, sidewalks and roadways;
• Providing general upkeep and minor repairs to asphalt and concrete surfaces; and
• Any other duties as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor.
