Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Perform risk assessments on high‑risk bids and agreements; incorporate mitigation into procurement planning.
• Lead complex, high‑value contracts; oversee changes, performance obligations and risks.
• Lead complex negotiations for high‑risk procurements with stakeholders; ensure alignment with obligations.
• Provide stewardship over procurement and contract processes for goods and services for MacEwan University.
• Analyze spend data to report on cost, supplier performance, and market conditions; report to Director.
• Administer external sourcing platforms (Euna/Bonfire); ensure postings and templates comply with public-sector rules.
• Monitor supplier performance and drive corrective actions; support continuous improvement.
• Coach and mentor team members on procurement strategies and policies; identify growth opportunities.
• Identify process improvements and support implementation; escalate operational risks as needed.
• Provide supervisory oversight for the Procurement Sourcing Team, including recruitment and coaching.

MacEwan University is seeking a Team Lead, Sourcing for a full-time continuing opportunity within our Procurement and Contract Management Services..

The Team Lead, Sourcing provides strategic and operational leadership to the Procurement Sourcing Team, ensuring the effective delivery of competitive procurement processes and contract administration services. Reporting to the Director, this position provides a leadership/advisory role to the Sourcing Team related to low-, medium-, and high-risk/visibility/value procurement & contract administration services.

Key responsibilities include:

• Performing risk assessments on potential high-risk competitive bids and agreements and ensuring appropriate mitigating strategies are incorporated into procurement planning;
• Leading and managing complex, high value contracts, including overseeing contract changes, performance obligations, and commercial risk management;
• Leading complex negotiations for high-risk procurements, interpreting contractual requirements, anticipating required changes, facilitating consensus among stakeholders, and ensuring outcomes align with institutional and legal obligations;
• Providing stewardship over procurement and contract administration processes for the acquisition of goods and services on behalf of MacEwan University, ensuring they support institutional objectives and adhere to governance frameworks;
• Analyzing procurement and spend data to develop reports evaluating cost and service effectiveness, supplier performance, market conditions, and process improvements. Reporting to Director on cost control, supply risks, internal customers relations, performance checks, processes improvements, sourcing projects, and strategic collaborations;
• Acting as a primary Administrator for external sourcing platforms (e.g., Euna/Bonfire), managing template standardization and system workflows, actively monitoring external procurement portals and platforms to ensure posting accuracy and compliance with public-sector disclosure requirements;
• Monitoring supplier performance and collaborating with stakeholders to address issues, implement corrective actions, and support continuous improvement;
• Providing ongoing coaching and mentoring to unit staff leveraging expert knowledge of procurement strategies, trade agreements, policies, procedures, and contract law, supporting both technical development and professional growth;
• Identifying opportunities for process and service improvements, recommending and supporting implementation initiatives, and proactively identifying, assessing, and escalating operational, compliance, and service quality risks; and
• Providing full supervisory oversight for the Procurement Sourcing Team, including participating in recruitment, onboarding, training, providing positive and constructive coaching, employee development, performance coaching, and escalating matters to the Director as appropriate to ensure operational effectiveness and alignment with work performance expectations.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Business, Commerce, or a related field.
• A professional certification in the supply management field (Supply Chain Management Professional (SCMP) designation), or equivalent.
• A minimum of 7 years’ related procurement experience, including leading high-risk end-to-end competitive bids, leading contract negotiations, contract administration (draft and execution), contract management, performing diversified supply chain management, leading teams, and overseeing procurement operations.
• Experience within a public sector institution or a large organization would be considered an asset.
• Comprehensive knowledge of trade agreements (e.g., New West Partnership Trade Agreement (NWPTA), Canadian Free Trade Agreement (CFTA)) would be considered an asset.
• Working knowledge of relevant software and systems such as Euna Procurement (aka Bonfire), Google workplace, MS Office, Contract Lifecycle Management software, E-Procurement Solutions, E-Signature software, and PeopleSoft applications would be considered an asset.
