Job summary

MacEwan University seeks a full-time Grounds Worker for a 12-month non-recurring term in Landscaping and Grounds. You will maintain campus grounds, respond to winter weather events, and ensure safe, attractive environments across campuses.

The role requires a grade 12 diploma and landscape maintenance experience. You will operate and maintain equipment, report hazards, and work on a 35-hour week on campus.

Qualifications

• Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
• At least 1 year landscape maintenance experience or relevant education.
• Experience with tractors, loaders, mowers, trucks and hand tools.
• Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's Licence.

Responsibilities

• Maintain campus grounds: mowing, pruning, plant care and irrigation operation.
• Repair mobile equipment as needed.
• Report unsafe conditions to Grounds Supervisor.
• Snow removal duties with machines and manual labour.
• Maintain equipment through cleaning, lubrication, and tune-ups.
• Pressure wash hard landscape structures and planters.
• Spring cleanup; sweep parking lots and sidewalks.
• Upkeep of asphalt and concrete surfaces.
• Carry out any other duties as assigned by Grounds Supervisor.

Salary: MSU Band B (Steps 1-8): $20.640 - $30.029 per hour. $37,566 - $54,652 per annum (Based on 35 hours per week).

MacEwan University is seeking a full-time Grounds Worker for a full-time 12-month non-recurring term opportunity with our Landscaping and Grounds department. You will be responsible for maintaining safe and attractive environment areas for all campuses. You will provide twenty-four hour response to winter weather conditions. It is also your responsibility to perform duties by adhering to all safety regulations and safe work practices.

Key responsibilities include:

• Maintaining campus grounds by conducting litter and garbage pick-up, mowing grass, pruning, transplanting, replacing/propagating trees and shrubs, weeding flower beds, landscaping renovations, and operating the irrigation systems;
• Performing repairs on mobile equipment;
• Reporting unsafe conditions and hazards to the Grounds Supervisor;
• Performing duties of snow removal with machines and physical labour on the campus including sanding and/or applying chemicals;
• Conducting maintenance on the equipment common to the trade, such as cleaning, lubricating, fluid changes, tune-ups, adjustments, blade sharpening and preventative maintenance as well as trouble shooting;
• Pressure washing of hard landscape structures, such as bus shelters, stone walls and planters;
• Performing spring cleanup duties which include sweeping of parking lots, sidewalks and roadways;
• Providing general upkeep and minor repairs to asphalt and concrete surfaces; and
• Any other duties as assigned by the Grounds Supervisor.

• Good physical health.

Qualifications

• A minimum of a grade 12 diploma.
• A minimum of one year landscape maintenance or relevant educational background.
• Experience using landscaping equipment: tractors, loaders, lawnmowers, trucks, woodchippers, road sweepers and hand power tools.
• A valid Alberta Class 5 Driver's License.

Position Requirements

• Must have knowledge of WHMIS and OH&S Regulations.
