Family Support Worker – 1 Part-Time Evenings & Day Shift

About us:

Kids Kottage Foundation, established in 1995, is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing a safe and nurturing environment for children when families encounter a crisis and need help to cope with and overcome their challenges.

The Crisis Nursery provides 24-hour care, typically 1-3 days period, for up to 12 children under the age of 11 when their parents are faced with emergencies such as a health crisis, unsafe housing or homelessness, family violence, lack of utilities, legal crisis, or overwhelming parental stress and have no other alternate care for their children.

Our mission is to ensure children are safe and receive the care they deserve when their families are in a crisis and provide caregivers with the appropriate resources, they need to support them to mitigate the crisis and build resiliency.

The Opportunity:

Kids Kottage Foundation is recruiting a part-time Family Support Worker. Reporting to the Team Lead, a Family Support Worker is responsible for exemplary, trauma informed childcare.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Interacts and engages with infants and children
  2. Provides a high quality of childcare for infants and children supporting their emotional, physical and social development milestones
  3. Maintains a safe environment
  4. Assists infants and children in their daily routines, keeping in mind the developmental stages
  5. Completes developmental screening of infants and children as required
  6. Assists infants and children to cope with feelings of separation from parents
  7. Ensures that files are completed, and data is entered correctly into the database
  8. Completes daily logs of the assigned infants and children
  9. Oversees and assists childcare volunteers as they provide care for infants and children
  10. Keeps abreast of all current resources for family systems and children and applies all current applicable legislation
  11. Shares information with the Kids Kottage team
  12. Takes crisis nursery calls offering non-judgmental assistance to all families pursuing help from Kids Kottage
  13. Completes admissions and discharges with the parents as needed

Qualifications:

  1. A minimum of diploma in the human services field, and/or early childcare education
  2. 2 years’ experience in care of infants and children
  3. Program development and implementation experience
  4. Will be a self-starter who applies energy, vision and flexibility to his/her work
  5. Must provide and maintain clear Child Intervention Record Check and Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector
  6. Standard First Aid with Level C

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Child Development, Trauma Informed Care, Brain Story
  • Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experiences theories is an asset
  • Ability to think critically and excellent problem solver
  • Knowledge of strength-based strategies and able to use them effectively

We are looking to hire 1 permanent part-time staff to work Friday and Saturday evenings 3:45pm-12:00am & Sunday day shift 7:45am-4:00pm.
