Job summary

Strathcona County is seeking an Emergency Communications Operator to join our Emergency Services team. This role supports 24/7 operations, handling both emergency and non-emergency calls with clear, customer-focused communication to enable timely responses.

The successful candidate has post-secondary Emergency Communications training and at least one year in a related field, with CAD and radio familiarity. This is a 1 temporary full-time position, up to 12 months, in Strathcona County, Alberta.

Qualifications

• Completed post-secondary Emergency Communications program.
• Minimum 1 year related field experience, preferably 911 or fire dispatch.
• Emergency Fire Dispatch Certification is an asset.
• Knowledge of CAD and radio operations is an asset.
• Ability to multi-task and work under pressure in a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Answer, process and monitor 911 calls and dispatch per guidelines.
• Obtain information from callers with accuracy and professionalism.
• Dispatch stations, apparatus and personnel using CAD.
• Monitor radio channels with correct terminology.
• Maintain quality standards and confidentiality (FOIP).
• Support accurate record keeping and efficient operations.
• Work as a team in a high-stress environment and manage multiple tasks.
