Job summary

City of Coquitlam seeks motivated individuals to join the auxiliary Communications Operator 1 pool at the RCMP Detachment. You will support civilian police operations, respond to calls, gather information, and provide accurate reports to officers in the field.

Reporting to the Telecommunications Supervisor, you will receive on-the-job training in a fast-paced environment. A high level of empathy, judgment, and service orientation is essential to deliver exceptional public safety communications.

Qualifications

• Completion of Grade 12. Preference for additional education or related training (e.g. Public Safety Communications, Criminology, Crisis Intervention, Law Enforcement Studies).
• Geographical knowledge of Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam and surrounding communities.
• Familiarity with the Criminal Code of Canada, Motor Vehicle Act, and other laws and acts.
• Proficiency with Windows-based computer programs and the ability to type at ~40 words per minute.
• Availability to work a variety of shifts in a 24/7 operations centre, including days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls from the public.
• Gather critical information, assess and prioritize calls, prepare accurate reports.
