Job summary

Wagalus Elementary School is seeking a caring, enthusiastic teacher to cover a leave from the current date through January 8, 2027. The role emphasizes BC curriculum literacy, numeracy, social-emotional growth, and culturally responsive teaching within a Kwakiutl context.

You will collaborate with staff, integrate local language and culture, and support diverse learners including those with IEPs while engaging families and the community.

Qualifications

• Valid BC Teaching Certificate and Primary education training.
• Experience with literacy, numeracy, and early primary grades.
• Knowledge of BC First Nations Indigenous education initiatives.
• Strong collaboration and inclusive practices.
• Ability to plan for diverse learners including IEPs.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, nurturing and inclusive classroom environment.
• Plan and deliver engaging learning experiences for developmental needs.
• Implement Readwell, UFLI, Six Minute Solution for Literacy, Saxon for Math.
• Build positive relationships with students, families and colleagues.
• Incorporate local culture, language and community knowledge into learning.
• Collaborate with staff to support school-wide goals.
• Support holistic growth—academic, social, emotional, cultural.
• Use formative assessment to monitor progress.
• Plan for diverse learners including those with IEPs.
• Utilize technology to enhance learning and communication.
• Participate in extracurricular and community activities.
