Kumsheen Shchema-meet School in the Village of Lytton seeks a 1.0 FTE term-certain Humanities teacher to cover Lang Arts 8/9, English First Peoples 10-12, and Media Arts 8/10 from Sept 8, 2026 to Nov 6, 2026 or return of incumbent.

The successful candidate must hold BC teaching certification, be knowledgeable about the BC curriculum, and demonstrate strong assessment practices, Indigenous culture integration, and collaborative, technology-enabled teaching.

Qualifications

  • The successful applicant must have or be eligible for certification to teach in British Columbia and possess:
  • Knowledge of the BC curriculum and competencies;
  • Strong assessment practices, including assessment as and for learning;
  • Experience integrating local Indigenous culture and traditions into curriculum;
  • The ability to use a variety of teaching and learning strategies to accommodate learning needs;
  • Experience integrating experiential, on-the-land and/or inquiry learning opportunities;
  • A proven ability to develop a positive learning environment and strong classroom management;
  • Commitment to collaborative teamwork;
  • Demonstrated experience using and integrating technology into the curriculum;
  • Ability to establish positive relationships with students, staff, parents and the community.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Lang Arts 8/9, Eng First Peoples 10-12, Media Arts 8-10.
  • Integrate Indigenous culture and traditions into curriculum.
  • Use varied teaching strategies to support diverse learners.
  • Collaborate with staff for planning and assessment.
  • Integrate technology to enhance learning.
