W̱SÁNEĆ School Board is seeking an On-Call Teacher to provide instruction and develop a flexible program that supports learning and personal growth consistent with each student’s abilities.

Qualifications

  • Valid BC College of Teachers certificate.

  • Language proficiency and completion of the SENĆOŦEN/ED SENĆOŦEN Program.
  • Master of Education or equivalent (if applicable).

SUMMARY

Responsible for teaching students and creating a flexible program and environment favourable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student’s abilities. Also responsible for developing and integrating knowledge of W̱SÁNEĆ history and culture and of the four communities the school serves.

SCOPE

Works under the direction of the ȽÁU,WELṈEW̱ Tribal School/W̱SÁNEĆ Leadership Secondary School Principal or W̱SÁNEĆ College Director and in accordance with the BC curriculum, W̱SÁNEĆ SCHOOL BOARD (W̱SB) policy and procedures, to provide appropriate instruction and activities to further school and provincial objectives and enhance the personal, social, cultural and educational development of students between kindergarten and grade 12 and post-secondary education.

HOURS OF WORK

6.25 hrs per day based on a schedule to be determined in accordance with the operational needs of the W̱SÁNEĆ School Board.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training and Certification
  • Valid BC College of Teachers certificate
Teacher 4
  • BC College of Teachers First Nations Language Teacher Certificate authorized by the W̱SÁNEĆ School Board Language Authority and specialized training in or knowledge of W̱SÁNEĆ culture, history and language (For SENĆOŦEN Immersion Language Teachers only)
  • Undergraduate degree and/or specialized knowledge keepers with expertise in a specific field facilitated alongside of a certified teacher

  • Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent Bachelor’s degree (4-year program)
  • Language proficiency and completion of the W̱SENĆOŦENISTW̱ and B ED SENĆOŦENProgram
  • Undergraduate degree and completed a Master’s Degree without a PDP (6-year program)
Teacher 5
  • Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent Bachelor’s degree plus (Post-degree Program) PDP (5-year program)
Teacher 5.5
  • Bachelor of Education Degree or equivalent Bachelor’s degree and completion of an Integrated Program
Teacher 6
  • Master of Education Degree or equivalent and a Graduate degree
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
  • Working knowledge of relevant BC Ministry of Education curriculum and instructional techniques
  • Teach students with a range of academic, social and emotional needs
  • Work independently and collegially, as part of a team
  • Plan and organize work load including implementing daily and monthly instructional plans
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, verbally and in writing with students, parents and colleagues

Preference will be given to First Nations Ancestry.
