A leading company in Edmonton is seeking an Environmental, Health, Safety & Quality Specialist to lead safety initiatives, conduct audits, and support compliance with ISO standards. The successful candidate will have a proactive approach to fostering a safety culture and ensuring effective training and hazard management, contributing to a safe and compliant workplace.
We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Environmental, Health, Safety & Quality Specialist to support and enhance our workplace programs. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring compliance with Environmental Health Safety & Quality (EHS&Q) SOP’s and regulations, ISO 9001, implementing safety programs, conducting audits, managing incidents / non-conformances, and fostering a strong safety and quality culture within the responsible facility.
Specific Job Responsibilities / Competencies :
Act as theFacility Safety and Quality Lead, providing guidance and support for all safety and quality-related initiatives under the direction of the Service Center Manager.
Conductmonthly internal Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) auditsto ensure compliance with company procedures and regulatory requirements.
Implement and enforceStandard Operating Procedures (SOPs)related to EHS&Q and ensure site-wide compliance.
Support and investigateworkplace events, including root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
Support and promote theBehavior-Based Safety initiativesto encourage a proactive approach to workplace safety.
Assist in the development and execution ofthe local Safety Teams Programs, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
Conductnew hire safety orientationand provide ongoingemployee trainingon safety protocols and procedures.
Support thedevelopment of Job Hazard Analysisto identify and mitigate potential hazards in the workplace.
Overseemedical surveillance scheduling, ensuring timely health evaluations for employees exposed to occupational hazards.
Collect and maintainenvironmental manifests, ensuring proper documentation and compliance with waste disposal regulations.
Act as focal point for the facility’s ISO 9001 certification.
Evaluate all non-conformances to determine the proper path forward.
Ensure accurate and timely submittal of Non-Conformance Reports and Quality Action Requests.
Manage and maintain the calibration program for the facility.
Ensure shop operations and procedures are carried out in accordance with the Quality Manual.
Monitor and communicate scrap and rework costs to minimize the cost of quality for the facility.
Background and Experience :
Education Requirement : Bachelor's Degree inOccupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field(or equivalent experience).
2 + yearsof experience in an EHS or Quality role.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for identifying workplace hazards.
An awareness and enthusiasm around quality and safety.
Excellent communication and training abilities to engage employees at all levels.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
Minimum Experience : 2 yearsof experience in an EHS or Quality role.
Preferred Experience : Experience within manufacturing & heavy industry is a plus.
