Position Overview
Working closely with the Chief Programs & People Officer, the Director, People & Culture acts as a strategic partner to all areas of the organization, executive leadership, and the Human Resources Committee of the Board. Aligned with YW Calgary’s strategic vision of being a workplace of choice and learning organization, this position leads the direction, development, and advancement of YW Calgary’s workplace practices, policies, programs, and services, centered on equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging. This role builds networks and represents YW Calgary internally and externally as an ambassador for YW’s purpose, Practice Framework, strategic vision, and social enterprise.
Employment Details
This is a full-time, permanent position (37.5 hours per week), with standard hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday. The role offers a hybrid work arrangement—three days in the office and two days remote per week.

Responsibilities
- Participate in organizational strategy to provide expertise and leadership supporting YW’s workforce and talent management philosophy, strategy, systems, programs, and structures, embracing EDI and HS&W.
- Partner in creating and implementing YW Calgary’s technology strategy, including HRIS/Payroll and other social enterprise initiatives.
- Support the implementation of an HRIS that elevates, innovates, and automates payroll and HR capabilities.
- Plan, create, implement, and evaluate all human resources and health and safety programs, policies, and practices across the employee lifecycle.
- Champion organizational engagement and action to create equitable policies and programs that support marginalized communities.
- Oversee the continuous improvement of Health, Safety, and Wellness strategies, ensuring compliance with legislation.
- Provide leadership for the implementation and ongoing assessment of the National Standard for psychological health and safety.
- Partner in developing volunteer and practicum student strategies integrated throughout YW’s policies and programs.
- Create and participate in external networks to build relationships and stay informed on sector trends.
- Contribute to a strong risk management framework to identify and mitigate risks.
- Lead a diverse People & Culture team to develop and implement innovative programs and practices.
- Build and foster a high-performing team through strong relationships and a respectful, safe work environment.
- Lead the People Services plan, ensuring team objectives and individual roles align with organizational goals.
- Support the selection and management of external HR consultants and service providers.
- Develop and adhere to an annual budget.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary degree in a relevant discipline; CPHR designation required.
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in Human Resources with broad technical knowledge.
- Hands-on experience managing HR technology systems and strong analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Proven ability to lead, coach, and navigate change, with a commitment to ongoing learning.
- Experience working with diverse teams and understanding of cultural competency and intersectionality.
- Ability to influence at all organizational levels.
