Purpose Summary

The People & Culture Manager serves as the key relationship manager within the People & Culture Resources Department, playing a vital role in cultivating a healthy, high-performing organizational culture. This position is responsible for leading talent acquisition, employee relations, performance management, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Central to the role is the advancement of Compassion’s cultural behaviours and core values, fostering a people-focused and purpose-driven workplace environment aligned with Compassion's mission of releasing children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

What You Do Matters
Key Responsibilities
  • Spiritual Leadership: Engage with staff on a spiritual level, praying with them, providing resources, and demonstrating core values. Maintain a personal relationship with Jesus and uphold Christian accountability, modeling and influencing the Christian ethos of Compassion Canada.
  • Talent Acquisition: Lead full cycle talent acquisition, including strategic planning, recruitment, retention strategies, onboarding, and talent management programs. Support leaders with coaching and training on these processes, analyze employee trends, and develop actionable insights.
  • Growth Management: Manage the annual performance cycle, including communication, resources, and tracking tools.
  • Leadership Support: Assist leaders with coaching, performance, and behavioral management.
  • Employee Relationship Management: Serve as an advisor on HR policies, processes, and organizational culture.
  • Benefits & Payroll: Support benefits enrollment, communication, and payroll processing as needed.
  • Training & Development: Provide training, feedback, and coaching to staff and managers.
  • Compliance & Content Creation: Ensure organizational compliance with legislative requirements, facilitate communication updates, and develop content for onboarding and training materials.
  • Other Responsibilities: Perform additional duties to meet organizational needs, including managing accessibility, health & safety, and policy delivery across HR functions.
Who You Are
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Ideal candidates will have a growth mindset, be self-aware, and excel in collaborative change management. They should possess extensive experience in HR leadership, including change management, stakeholder engagement, data reporting, and compliance across multiple provinces. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and proficiency with HR systems (e.g., Dayforce) and Microsoft Office are essential. Candidates must align with Compassion’s Christian ethos and demonstrate understanding of broad ecumenical perspectives.

Preferred Assets
  • Experience working across Canadian provinces and territories
  • Dayforce HRIS experience
  • JHSC certification
  • Project management experience (e.g., Asana, Trello)
  • Payroll processing experience
Education & Experience
  • Minimum 5 years in Employee Relations or HR leadership roles
  • Post-secondary education in HR or related fields (asset but not mandatory if experience exceeds 7 years)
  • Experience with payroll processing (1-3 years)
  • Knowledge of employment laws, human rights, and safety legislation
Working Conditions

We prioritize a remote-first, digital engagement environment that supports flexible work arrangements, including occasional travel and overtime. Regular in-person meetings are expected twice a year for leadership.
