Job description
1. Strategic Leadership
  • Lead and promote applied research, innovation and scholarship initiatives within the School of Nursing, Health Sciences, Education and Community Services, in close collaboration with Office of Applied Research and Innovation (OARI).
  • Develop and implement strategic and operational plans that enact the vision and priorities.
  • Engage the schools’ leadership and faculty in shaping a research and improvement agenda that aligns with health industry innovation.
  • Collaborate with health industry partners in identifying key applied research and improvement opportunities that could involve faculty and students to meet the emerging demands of the industry.
  • Provide leadership and direction, delegate and monitor the actions of direct and indirect reports to ensure strategic objectives and operational plans are executed within their approved cost and schedule.
  • Actively model and implement principles of coaching, leading, mentoring, and engagement.
  • Provide leadership and vision to promote the growth and development of both students and faculty, encouraging excellence and recognizing diverse forms of scholarly contribution.
  • Develop and implement various required policies, tools and standards.
  • Demonstrate leadership via the participation and delivery of guidance to faculty in the preparation and submission of abstracts, papers, articles, promotional materials, etc., for publication and/or presentation.
  • Identify and apply tools that engage faculty in quality improvement, interprofessional scholarship, and client-centered research aligned with industry priorities.
  • Provide expertise in the acquisition, analysis and knowledge transfer and translation of research findings and literature.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies that promote awareness and support collaboration between faculty and CHRIS initiatives.
2. Funding Procurement and Resource Management
  • Develop and manage the department budget with institutional funding and research grants in accordance with polices. Administer budgetary allocations and expenditures.
  • Ensure resources are allocated in accordance with the schools’ operating and capital plans.
  • Collaborate with OARI in relation to the management of grants and contracts, and maintenance of a database of impact metrics to meet reporting requirements.
  • Conduct regular reviews of financial performance (within scope of responsibility) and provide requested reports to the Dean.
  • Identify and actively pursue funding opportunities and provide leadership in the preparation and submission of funding requests/proposals, alone or in partnership with faculty and others.
3. People Management
  • Foster a positive, diverse and inclusive work and learning environment for direct reports.
  • Provide mentorship, coaching and development opportunities to enhance performance and to enable direct reports to achieve their accountabilities.
  • Develop and communicate clear performance standards and goals for direct reports, provide feedback and hold employee responsible to outcomes.
  • Ensure that established performance goals for staff are aligned with the overall strategic goals of the schools and the entire organization.
  • Maintain a high level of staff performance through effective use of human resources practices and procedures, including independent authority in the recruitment, selection, hiring, training, development, motivation and performance evaluation of direct reports.
  • Address issues with direct reports, including independent authority to discipline, dismiss and/or terminate where appropriate, applied in a timely manner while ensuring compliance with the collective agreements and organizational policies.
  • Communicate strategic and operational developments to direct reports, ensuring their roles and contributions align with the broader vision and long-term objectives of the organization.
Relationship Management

Internal

  • Collaborate with OARI to align the CHRIS strategy with institutional scholarship priorities, ensuring resource optimization, clear communication, and high standards of client service and stewardship.
  • Ensure a positive, diverse and inclusive working relationship is fostered and maintained in interactions across all operational areas.
  • Support faculty in integrating research into interprofessional education, simulated learning, and curriculum development.

External

  • Build and sustains strategic partnerships locally, provincially, nationally, and internationally in research, education, and health.
  • Represent Saskatchewan Polytechnic on relevant committees and working groups.
  • Ensure external relationships are effectively developed and maintained to support institutional goals.
