Job summary

Shannex Incorporated is seeking a Dietary Aide to join the Maplestone Enhanced Care team in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The role focuses on delivering meals with quality, correct temperatures, and appealing presentation, while following dietary restrictions and daily menu changes.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, proof of Food Safety Certification, and the ability to obtain background checks. Experience in kitchen work and elder care is valued, with bilingual English/French a plus.

Qualifications

  • High-school diploma or GED.
  • Proof of Food Safety Certification required.
  • Successful candidates will obtain a clear Criminal Record Check and a Vulnerable Sector Check if applicable.
  • Experience in a kitchen setting is an asset.
  • Experience with the elderly in long-term care or senior living is an asset.
  • Bilingualism in English and French is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet department standards.
  • Follow production sheets and assist with cost control.
  • Accommodate diet restrictions, allergies and special requests for residents.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of servery, dining room, and equipment.
  • Assist with deliveries, inventory, and waste reduction.

About The Opportunity
  • Consistently ensures food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet established department standards. Ensures meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is timely
  • Follows production sheets to guide food preparation and assist with cost control
  • Stays up to date with the specific needs of each resident e.g. diet restrictions, allergies and special requests/accommodations.
  • Stays up to date with daily changes related to menus and/or residents.
  • Familiarizes self with the specific needs of each client e.g. diet restrictions, allergies and special requests/accommodations
  • Assists with the process for checking and receiving of deliveries and inventory control. Ensures all supplies are stored, labelled, and rotated properly
  • Makes sure that the Servery and dining room appearance meets set standards for cleanliness, organization and set up prior to meal service.
  • Processes pots, pans, and dishware and maintains sanitation dishwasher and dish sinks according to established and required cleaning guidelines.
  • Immediately reports any equipment temperature issues to manager and takes corrective action as necessary.
  • Participates in the client and employee incident reporting and investigation process as required
  • Reports areas and equipment in need of repair to the maintenance department
  • Ensures kitchen appearance meets established standards for cleanliness and organization
  • Additional duties as assigned/required
About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • A high-school diploma or GED
  • Proof of Food Safety Certification required
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
  • Experience in a kitchen setting is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience in working with the elderly in long-term care or a senior living environment considered an asset
  • Bilingualism in English and French considered an asset
  • First Aid and CPR certification considered an asset
  • Ability to work flexible hours and shifts (including weekends and holidays)
  • Strong customer service skills and a passion for serving seniors
  • Experience in the culinary field and are familiar with preparing plates for clients
  • A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
