Job summary

Shannex Incorporated is seeking a compassionate Support Services Attendant for Ryan Hall Enhanced Care in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. You will perform housekeeping, laundry, and dining support duties to ensure quality resident care and a safe environment.

Ideal candidates have experience in housekeeping or laundry, basic food service skills, and flexibility to work varied shifts. CPR/First Aid certification is a plus and clear background checks are required.

Qualifications

  • Experience in commercial housekeeping and/or laundry is preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is considered an asset.
  • Ability to learn and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Flexibility to work days, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture, counters, shelving, walls, and windows.
  • Clean sinks, toilets and bath facilities; replenish supplies in resident rooms.
  • Ensure food quality, presentation, dining room appearance and service delivery meet standards.
  • Assist with meal service, menu changes and temperature checks.
  • Sort laundry and operate washing/drying machines; handle linen inventory.
  • Support with distribution of snacks and night lunches; report issues to supervisor.

About The Opportunity
  • Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture, counters, shelving, walls, and window/door ledges.
  • Cleans sinks, toilets and bath facilities
  • Fills and replenishes supplies in resident rooms, nursing units, and rest rooms
  • Empties and cleans trash receptacles and places trash in compactor and/or trash pickup area
  • Ensures that food quality, presentation, dining room appearance and service delivery meet established department standards
  • Ensures meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is on time
  • Immediately reports any equipment/temperature issues to supervisor and takes corrective actions as necessary
  • Stays up to date with daily changes related to menus and/or residents.
  • Ensure food is received and stored properly
  • Prepares cart for fluid passes, snacks and night lunch for residents. Assists with distribution when needed
  • Provides resident menu feedback to manager via temperature audit sheet, feedback form or verbally
  • Sorts laundry into appropriate piles based on the type of laundry (linens, mops, personal clothing)
  • Operates washing machine using proper washing formulas
  • Operates dryer and extractor; loads clean, wet laundry into the machine, sets dials so the laundry is dried or damp-dried appropriately and unloads the machine
  • Sorts clean laundry into appropriate baskets or racks; counts linen needed for each area as per linen quota and puts on cart; notes name tags on resident clothing and puts on correct rack
  • Picks up soiled laundry and delivers clean laundry to resident areas within the facility using laundry carts
  • Checks laundry for tears, holes, missing buttons, etc. and forwards clothing needing repair to the seamstress
  • Additional duties as assigned/required
About You

In addition to placing high value on continuous improvement, collaboration and accountability, you bring:

  • High School/ GED completion
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in commercial housekeeping and/or laundry preferred
  • Proof of valid CPR/First Aid Certification considered an asset
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check , and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check , prior to appointment
  • Previous experience working in housekeeping and/or laundry considered an asset
  • Previous experience working in food services considered an asset
  • Previous experience in working in a long-term care an asset
  • Ability to learn and work in fast paced environment
  • Ability to work a schedule of flexible hours/ shifts inclusive of days, weekends and holidays
