Job summary

Shannex Incorporated in Halifax, Nova Scotia, is seeking a Support Services Attendant for the Maplestone Enhanced Care team. The role focuses on cleaning and laundry tasks across resident areas and supporting safe, welcoming daily living.

Training and ongoing development are provided within a caring healthcare setting. Candidates should have a High School diploma, at least 1 year in commercial housekeeping or laundry, and the ability to work flexible days, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED required.
  • 1+ year experience in commercial housekeeping or laundry preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid certification is an asset.
  • Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check prior to appointment.

Responsibilities

  • Dust, clean and polish furniture, counters, shelving, walls and ledges.
  • Clean sinks, toilets and bath facilities.
  • Replenish supplies in resident rooms, units and restrooms.
  • Empty trash and manage disposal per facility protocol.
  • Ensure food service area presentation, temperature and portion standards.
  • Report equipment/temperature issues to supervisor and take corrective actions as needed.
  • Assist with laundry duties and support daily operations as required.

About The Opportunity
  • Dusts, cleans and polishes furniture, counters, shelving, walls, and window/door ledges.
  • Cleans sinks, toilets and bath facilities
  • Fills and replenishes supplies in resident rooms, nursing units, and rest rooms
  • Empties and cleans trash receptacles and places trash in compactor and/or trash pickup area
  • Ensures that food quality, presentation, dining room appearance and service delivery meet established department standards
  • Ensures meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is on time
  • Immediately reports any equipment/temperature issues to supervisor and takes corrective actions as necessary
  • Stays up to date with daily changes related to menus and/or residents.
  • Ensure food is received and stored properly
  • Prepares cart for fluid passes, snacks and night lunch for residents. Assists with distribution when needed
  • Provides resident menu feedback to manager via temperature audit sheet, feedback form or verbally
  • Sorts laundry into appropriate piles based on the type of laundry (linens, mops, personal clothing)
  • Operates washing machine using proper washing formulas
  • Operates dryer and extractor; loads clean, wet laundry into the machine, sets dials so the laundry is dried or damp-dried appropriately and unloads the machine
  • Sorts clean laundry into appropriate baskets or racks; counts linen needed for each area as per linen quota and puts on cart; notes name tags on resident clothing and puts on correct rack
  • Picks up soiled laundry and delivers clean laundry to resident areas within the facility using laundry carts
  • Checks laundry for tears, holes, missing buttons, etc. and forwards clothing needing repair to the seamstress
  • Additional duties as assigned/required
About You
  • High School/ GED completion
  • Minimum of one (1) year experience in commercial housekeeping and/or laundry preferred
  • Proof of valid CPR/First Aid Certification considered an asset
  • Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
  • Previous experience working in housekeeping and/or laundry considered an asset
  • Previous experience working in food services considered an assetPrevious experience in working in a long-term care an asset
  • Ability to learn and work in fast paced environment
  • Ability to work a schedule of flexible hours/ shifts inclusive of days, weekends and holidays
