Job summary

Shannex in Bedford, Nova Scotia is seeking a friendly Dietary Aide to join Adeline Hall. You will help prepare and present meals, ensure correct temperatures and portions, and support residents with thoughtful service in a compassionate, safe environment.

The role requires a high-school diploma or GED, food safety certification, and the ability to obtain Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector checks. Experience in kitchen settings and with seniors is preferred; bilingual English/French and First

• Proof of Food Safety Certification is required.
• Clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check upon appointment.
• High school diploma or GED required. First Aid/CPR is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Ensure food quality, presentation, and service meets department standards and is served timely.
• Follow production sheets and assist with cost control.
• Accommodate residents' diet restrictions and allergies.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of servery and dining area.
• Report equipment issues and assist with inventory and deliveries.

About The Opportunity

• Consistently ensures food quality, presentation, and service delivery meet established department standards. Ensures meals are attractive, the correct temperature and portion size, and that service is timely
• Follows production sheets to guide food preparation and assist with cost control
• Stays up to date with the specific needs of each resident e.g. diet restrictions, allergies and special requests/accommodations.
• Stays up to date with daily changes related to menus and/or residents.
• Familiarizes self with the specific needs of each client e.g. diet restrictions, allergies and special requests/accommodations
• Assists with the process for checking and receiving of deliveries and inventory control. Ensures all supplies are stored, labelled, and rotated properly
• Makes sure that the Servery and dining room appearance meets set standards for cleanliness, organization and set up prior to meal service.
• Processes pots, pans, and dishware and maintains sanitation dishwasher and dish sink according to established and required cleaning guidelines.
• Immediately reports any equipment temperature issues to manager and takes corrective action as necessary.
• Participates in the client and employee incident reporting and investigation process as required
• Reports areas and equipment in need of repair to the maintenance department
• Ensures kitchen appearance meets established standards for cleanliness and organization

About You

• A high-school diploma or GED
• Proof of Food Safety Certification required
• Successful candidates will be required to obtain a clear Criminal Record Check, and where applicable, a Vulnerable Sector Check, prior to appointment
• Experience in a kitchen setting is considered an asset.
• Previous experience in working with the elderly in long-term care or a senior living environment considered an asset
• Bilingualism in English and French considered an asset
• First Aid and CPR certification considered an asset
• Ability to work flexible hours and shifts (including weekends and holidays)
• Strong customer service skills and a passion for serving seniors
• Experience in the culinary field and are familiar with preparing plates for clients
• A passion for the healthcare sector and/or ensuring seniors have access to quality accommodations, services and care
