The Opportunity

The Development Officer is a key team member who will enhance the College’s efforts to create meaningful engagement opportunities for and improve accountability to donors, sponsors and funders. This position will provide support for activities of the Office of Development including maintaining donor information, conducting prospect research, pipeline tracking, implementing stewardship activity, drafting correspondence, financial administration, assisting with projects and events and general administrative duties. In addition, this position is responsible to support in the execution of annual giving initiatives and to secure student awards to assist the College in meeting strategic objectives.
The Development Officer will be in contact with a broad range of stakeholders and must demonstrate excellent communication skills and the ability to work efficiently in high-pressure environments.
Key Job Functions:
- Primary contact for internal and external stakeholders for development activities.
- Provide administrative support to all staff in the Development department, including calendar management, document/presentation preparation, visa reconciliation, and expense claim submission.
- Create agendas and take minutes for all Development department related meetings.
- Maintain detailed records of donor contact, history, and moves management.
- Monitor and support content updates for Development web pages and other online profiles.
- Assist with event planning of Development functions.
Fund Development
- Creating and streamlining a structured plan to acknowledge, engage, and retain donors.
- Take a lead role in all donor acknowledgement, recognition, and stewardship activities including donor reports and pledge fulfillment correspondence.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date recording of stewardship and sponsorship obligations, working with the Marketing & Communications team as needed to ensure these obligations are met.
- Coordinate and implement plans for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of annual awards from individuals, corporations, foundations, and alumni and conduct prospect management as required.
- Monitor annual awards partnerships to identify potential opportunities for growth and to increase the value of awards.
- Identify and develop inspiring engagement opportunities for donors, including the implementation of in-person and digital stewardship events to strengthen donor engagement.
- Coordinate and distribute sponsorship packages to potential sponsors for annual fundraising events in collaboration with the Manager, Fund Development and Operations.
- Manage operations of the sponsorship plan, completing contracts and gift agreements in collaboration with relationship managers for individuals, corporations, and foundations in a timely manner.
- Build positive relationships with all internal stakeholders and develop a deep understanding of Olds College's education and research programs.
Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required
- A Post-secondary education in Business Management, Communications, Marketing, or Non-profit Management preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Previous experience with project management would be an asset.
- General knowledge of relationship management and nonprofit practices.
- Advanced oral and written communication, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, balancing multiple demands.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with diplomacy.
- Displays honesty, integrity, and a strong sense of ethics in all decisions and actions.
- Proficient in computer software (Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Google Docs).
- Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge software is considered an asset.
- Makes decisions with our Community partners, stakeholders, and the sectors we serve in mind, demonstrating the value of relationship building.
