Job summary

Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) is seeking a temporary full-time Cook to prepare and serve meals, including special diets, while ensuring safety and cleanliness. Reporting to the Senior Cook, you will receive supplies, monitor equipment and perform routine cleaning duties.

The role requires Grade 12, Professional Cook Training, First Aid and Food Safe Level 2, plus a valid Class V license.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 and a Professional Cook Training Certificate with six months' related experience.
  • First Aid certification and Food Safe Level 2 required.
  • Completion of Provincial Violence Prevention within three months of employment.
  • Valid Class V Driver's License.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and serve meals including special diets.
  • Perform routine cleaning duties; receive supplies; monitor equipment.
  • Travel between multiple sites may be required; transportation arrangements must meet operational needs.

Job Description

In accordance with the Vision, Purpose, and Values, and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such, the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Senior Cook or designate, prepares and serves meals including special diets. Performs routine cleaning duties; receives supplies; and monitors equipment.

Travel may be a requirement of this position. If applicable, transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of the Vancouver Island Health Authority in accordance with the service assignment and the incumbent must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Training And Experience

Grade 12, Professional Cook Training Certificate and recent, related experience of six (6) months or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Certification in First Aid and Food Safe 2. Completion of Provincial Violence Prevention within three months of employment. Valid Class V Driver's License.
