The primary duties of the candidate selected for the position will include installing and splicing mid-weight and heavy-weight conveyor belts at customers’ sites including related work involving conveyor systems.
Main responsabilities
- Work in teams of 2 (typically) and assist in training apprentice technicians on installation and vulcanization techniques
- Remove the existing belt and installing a new conveyor belt
- Operating the companies belt winder
- Make all the necessary conveyor adjustments (ie. Removing and reinstalling guarding, pully and roller adjustments, belt tracking)
- Perform hot and cold vulcanization and mechanical joints (at the customer sites and in the workshop)
- Perform other related work such as pulley lagging, rubber lining, cold and hot belt repairs
- Communicate with customer representatives
- Perform inspections of conveyors at customer sites and provide recommendations
- Ensure all tools and equipment are accounted for and are in working order
- Participate in provided training (ex. forklifts, overhead cranes), as well as continuous development of industry knowledge and skills
- Execute shop based orders when there are no service jobs scheduled
- Perform preventive maintenance of service equipment
- Execute the safety rules established in house and on customer sites
- Take responsibility for the service trucks and ensure their proper maintenance and inventory of tools and materials
- Maintain a clean truck and workspace
- Complete post-job documentation of hours and work performed
- Maintain regular contact with supervisor regarding the progress of the work or any issues that arise
Training and experience
- Hold a diploma in industrial mechanics or equivalent experience (an asset
- Experience with maintaining conveyor systems (an asset)
- Minimum 3 years of experience performing heavy weight belt vulcanization (essential)
Schedule :
- Day shift Monday-Friday, occasional weekends and evening (conditional on customer needs)
Technical skills :
- Valid driver's license and have a vehicle accessible for any shift start time
- Good knowledge of industrial mechanics
- Bilingual-French (an asset)
- Expert in installation of conveyor belts and vulcanization
- Ability to take measurements (as well as convert to imperial or metric) and do simple calculations
