The Ontario First Nations Technical Services Corporation (OFNTSC) is a nonprofit organization providing technical advisory services, training, and capacity development to First Nations communities in Ontario. OFNTSC aims to enhance quality of life, promote self-sufficiency, and foster economic growth within these communities.
OFNTSC is seeking a HUB Water & Wastewater Process Technician to assist the HUB Supervisor. This role requires up to 90% weekly travel. All tasks should align with OFNTSC's culture and values and be conducted with strict confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Provide onsite operator support to ensure provincial regulatory compliance of process control programs and maintain health and safety standards for water and wastewater treatment in Ontario’s Unaffiliated First Nations.
- Implement operations and maintenance practices for water and wastewater systems, utilizing tracking software, and applying analytical, problem-solving, planning, and scheduling skills to inspect, operate, and monitor processes and equipment. Make process control adjustments and resolve operational issues.
- Analyze data to monitor performance, ensure compliance with legal requirements, resolve onsite compliance issues, and meet OFNTSC’s HUB targets.
- Share knowledge of environmental compliance, including relevant regulations, acts, codes, policies, and procedures, and their impact on water and wastewater system operations.
- Provide technical advice and guidance to internal and external contacts and facilitate in-house training for First Nations operations staff.
- Support compliance documentation for major maintenance projects and evaluate operational status of water and wastewater systems.
- Assist in procurement processes and procedures.
- Apply, interpret, and maintain water and wastewater programs based on legislation and internal processes.
Qualifications
- Mandatory Class II certification in Water Treatment and/or Wastewater Treatment, or registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario.
- Consideration may be given to candidates with a minimum Class I license, as per O.Reg. 128/04 and O.Reg. 129/04.
- Post-secondary education in engineering or environmental disciplines.
- Effective time management, initiative, and ability to work independently or in a team.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Extensive knowledge of water and wastewater treatment operations, processes, and environmental compliance standards, including DWQMS.
- Knowledge of health and safety regulations, including the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Skills in auditing, inspection, and reporting, with proficiency in Microsoft Office, SCADA systems, and database management.
Conditions
- Travel within Ontario required.
- Reliable vehicle, valid driver’s license, and willingness to obtain Class II water treatment certification within one year.
- Minimum five years of progressive maintenance experience.
- Availability after hours for emergencies or on-call duties across Northern and Southern Ontario.
- Preference given to First Nations applicants meeting mandatory requirements.
