About Atlantic Cultivation & Atlantic Cannabis (ACL)

Atlantic Cultivation is a fully integrated cannabis producer based in St. John's, NL. We cultivate premium cannabis in our purpose-built facility and bring our products to market through our Atlantic Cannabis retail network, with 10 stores across the province.

The Role - Controller

Reporting to the CFO, the Controller leads the finance function and is a key member of the executive leadership team. This role is responsible for financial strategy execution, oversight of financial operations, strong internal controls, and timely, accurate reporting to senior leadership and the Board of Directors.

The Controller provides strategic insight to support growth, operational performance, compliance, and long-term value creation, while leading and developing the finance team with a focus on accuracy, integrity, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities
Governance & Financial Reporting
  • Support Board reporting and analysis in partnership with the CFO
  • Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close and consolidated reporting
  • Ensure regulatory compliance, audit readiness, and strong internal controls
  • Deliver meaningful financial insights and recommendations to leadership
Strategic & Operational Support
  • Support strategic planning, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Analyze performance trends, cost drivers, and operational metrics
  • Evaluate new initiatives, capital investments, and financial models
Finance Leadership & Operations
  • Lead the finance team, including direct oversight of the Assistant Controller
  • Oversee accounting operations including AP/AR, payroll, inventory, treasury, and cash flow
  • Support tax compliance including excise (B300), provincial, and federal filings
  • Monitor working capital and daily cash flow to support uninterrupted operations
Systems, Controls & Process Improvement
  • Lead enhancements to financial systems, processes, and automation
  • Strengthen accounting policies, internal controls, and governance frameworks
  • Drive improvements that enhance accuracy, efficiency, and visibility
Stakeholder Collaboration
  • Partner with cross-functional leaders across operations, supply chain, sales, and HR
  • Support external audit, banking, and regulatory relationships alongside the CFO
Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • CPA designation
  • 7+ years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including leadership
  • Strong background in financial reporting, internal controls, and compliance under ASPE or similar frameworks
Assets
  • MBA or advanced financial designations
  • Experience with NetSuite is a strong asset
  • Experience in manufacturing, cannabis, or other regulated industries
  • ERP implementation, optimization, or financial process automation experience

Job Specifics
  • Normal hours are Mon to Fri, 830-430. Occasional OT may be required to complete priority work tasks.
  • Incumbent must be able to report for work at our facility located on Captain Prim Drive in St. John's.
  • Must be able to clear a Criminal Record Check.
