Job summary

Ideal-Child-Services-Group-1 is seeking a temporary Kitchen/Float at our Tumpane Child Care Centre in Toronto. The role begins September 8, 2025, and involves preparing snacks, meals, and maintaining a clean, compliant kitchen for children.

Qualified candidates will hold a Food Handler certificate, First Aid/CPR – AED Level C, and a vulnerable sector check, with the ability to plan menus in consultation with a supervisor and manage supplies accordingly.

• Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR – AED Level C
• Current and Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
• Meet Toronto Public Health medical and immunization requirements

Responsibilities

• Maintain hygiene, sanitary practices in line with Toronto Public Health
• Keep kitchen safe, clean and orderly
• Plan menus for children in consultation with Supervisor
• Review dietary needs and provide appropriate substitutes
• Plan and order food in consultation with Supervisor
• Ensure stock and supplies are adequate and order wholesale items
• Prepare snacks and lunches per posted menu with Supervisor approval
• Post menu substitutions promptly
• Serve lunches and snacks as scheduled
• Deliver cutlery/dishes to classrooms neatly
• Keep food covered during delivery
• Ensure snacks for following morning
• Rotate and label food stock for freshness
• Record and sign off on cleaning schedules

Job description

Established multi-site Childcare Operator seeks a temporary contract Kitchen/Float position at our Tumpane Child Care Centre location.

Position: Contract [starting September 8 2025]

Qualifications and Requirements:

• Current Food Handler Certificate
• Current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR – AED Level C
• Current and Clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)
• Complete Toronto Public Health Medical and Immunization requirements

Kitchen Skills Required:

• Adhere to and maintains hygiene, sanitary practices and appropriate food handling as per Toronto Public Health requirements
• Maintain a safe clean and orderly kitchen
• Planning menus for the children in consultation with the Supervisor
• Reviewing the children’s dietary needs and provides appropriate substitutes;
• Planning and ordering food in consultation with the Supervisor;
• Ensuring the Centre is adequately stocked and prepared and ordering the wholesale food and cleaning supplies in consultation with the Supervisor;
• Preparing snacks and lunches as per the posted menu, any substitutions must be approved by the Supervisor;
• All menu substitutions must be posted without delay;
• Serving daily lunches and snacks as per scheduled requirements;
• Delivering lunch cutlery and dishes to designate classrooms in an aesthetically pleasing manner;
• Ensuring the food is covered when being delivered;
• Ensuring that snacks are available for the following morning;
• Rotating and labeling the food stock to ensure quality and freshness;
• Adhering to the basic cleaning schedule by documenting and signing off on the compliance [daily/weekly and monthly basis]

Classroom Skills:

• Warm and Energetic individual who has the ability to work with Children of all ages, experience with any age group is an asset.
• Must possess strong initiative and organizational skills and have a positive attitude
• Dependable and Flexible - arrives on time and ready to commence work as scheduled
• Communicate effectively and professionally with Children, Staff and Parents, IC... Management, and any other Governing Agencies
• Must have general knowledge of Childcare Operations and an ability to comply with all the requirements from CCEYA/AQI/TPH/ICSG [incl. TDSB Policies and Procedures for sites located in TDSB]
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as in a team environment.
• Has the ability to implement an Early Childhood Program as per requirements set out by governing agencies
• Maintain Room control with positive Behaviour Management Strategies
• Ability to plan and implement a program

Assets:

• Working Knowledge of the Lillio Application (Parent Portal)
• Experience with laptop/tablet use to program and record Children’s profiles
• Early Childhood Education Diploma or Equivalency (not required)
• ECA Certificate (Not required)
• Any relevant experience working with Children (not required)

Hours of work:

• 8 hours/day [40 hours/week]
• Centre Hours of Operation are 7:00am – 6:00pm
