Job summary

Extendicare is hiring a Personal Support Worker to provide personal care and support to residents in our long-term care setting. You will work under supervision to assist with activities of daily living, mobility, and basic health needs while observing and reporting changes in residents’ conditions.

The role emphasizes compassionate care, confidentiality, and adherence to Extendicare’s standards and policies.

Qualifications

• Graduate of Personal Support Worker program or provincial equivalent with minimum 600 hours in Ontario & Alberta.
• Experience working with seniors in the community health services setting.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
• Current Basic Life Support and First Aid certification.
• Ability to perform lifting/transferring tasks.
• Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check within six months.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to the plan of care as determined by the supervisor.
• Assist residents with personal care and activities of daily living.
• Observe and report changes in residents' condition to supervisor.
• Elevate medical emergencies to supervisor or EMS as appropriate.
• Plan and prepare nutritious meals as required.
• Assist with ambulation, mobilization, transferring and adaptive aids.
• Maintain resident information confidentiality.
• Respond to resident/family concerns and communicate with supervisor.
