Job summary

Extendicare seeks a Part-time Personal Support Worker to provide personal care and assist with daily living activities for residents, under supervision. You will observe changes in condition, report to supervisors, and participate in emergency response and care planning.

Qualifications

• Graduate of Personal Support Worker program (or provincial equivalent certificate with minimum 600 hours in Ontario & Alberta of theory & practicum).
• Experience working with seniors in the community health services setting.
• Must possess strong written and oral communication skills.
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.
• Strong interpersonal and customer focus skills.
• Must have demonstrated sound skills and knowledge of providing personal care duties.
• Current Basic Cardiac Life Support and First Aid certification required.
• Ability to perform tasks such as lifting/transferring clients.
• Criminal background check or willingness to obtain one.

Responsibilities

• Adhere to the plan of care as determined by the supervisor.
• Facilitate residents’ move in and transfers where applicable.
• Observe and report on residents/clients care using Extendicare forms or tools.
• Assist residents with personal care, hygiene, and daily living activities.
• Observe and report changes in residents/clients condition to supervisor.
• Elevate medical emergencies to supervisor or EMS as appropriate.
• Plan and prepare nutritious meals as required.
• Assist with ambulation, mobilization, transferring and adaptive aids.
• Demonstrate understanding of resident needs and maximize abilities.
• Provide cognitive, social, emotional, and psychological support to residents and families.
• Maintain resident information confidentiality.
• Address concerns and communicate appropriately within decision-making authority.
• Maintain a safe and clean environment and nursing equipment.
• Report safety concerns and advocate for resident safety.
• Engage with other agencies involved in care as directed.
• Attend in-services to develop knowledge and skills.
• Work in a position of trust with vulnerable adults.
