Job summary

LifeLabs in Ontario is seeking a Lab Patient Technician to support the specimen collection process from greeting patients to preparation for transportation. This role is pivotal in patient care and ensuring accurate test results.

You will perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, and conduct ECG tracings, plus collect special tests and document appropriately. Maintain strong patient relationships and precise data entry.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with a typing speed of 40 wpm.
• Strong customer/patient service with the ability to relate to patients and clients even in stressful situations.
• Strong empathy, flexibility, adaptability to change, and problem solving skills.
• Ability to maintain the strictest standards of patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, verify information, explain the specimen collection process, and ensure protocol is followed.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect Holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections (drug screens, paternity tests, clinical trials) and complete documentation.
• Maintain client relationships; respond to inquiries and follow up on requests.
• Enter patient demographics, requisition information, and processing data accurately.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.
