Job summary

LifeLabs LP in Canada is seeking a Part-Time Lab Patient Technician to support the specimen collection process from patient greeting through to preparation for transport, based in Carleton Place.

You will perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect monitors, and handle ECG tracings, with a focus on accurate data entry and patient privacy. The role emphasizes strong customer service in a clinical setting.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistant program or equivalent preferred.
• Phlebotomy experience is an asset.
• ECG training or experience is an asset.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Good computer skills with a minimum typing speed of 40 wpm.
• Strong customer/patient service with ability to relate to patients in stressful situations.
• Strong empathy and adaptability to change.
• Ability to maintain patient privacy and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Greet and collect required information from patients; explain the specimen collection process.
• Perform phlebotomies, connect/disconnect holter monitors, and perform ECG tracings.
• Perform special test collections such as medical/legal drug screens and clinical trials; complete related documentation.
• Maintain client relationships; respond to inquiries and follow up on requests.
• Enter required patient demographics and requisition information; process results.
• Prepare specimens for transportation and testing.
