BC Hydro in Edmonds A02 is seeking a Co-op Student – Civil Engineering (Geo, Eng Phys, Computer – Earthquake) for Winter January 2027. The role emphasizes seismic data analysis, workflow automation, and migrating MATLAB workflows to Python or R to improve efficiency.

You will gain hands-on experience in seismic hazard analysis for critical structures, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and contributing to innovative modeling efforts.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a recognized post-secondary institution in Canada and must be yet to graduate.
• Completed at least second-year studies in a Civil, Geological, Geotechnical, Geophysics, or Computer Engineering degree program.
• Strong programming skills in Python and R are assets.
• Solid background in statistical analysis and data processing.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the analysis of earthquake data to support seismic hazard analysis of critical structures.
• Enhance workflows for seismic hazard analysis by automating/reducing manual steps (signal processing and ground motion time series selection).
• Migrate workflows from MATLAB to Python or R to improve efficiency and flexibility.
• Implement new methods and improve existing processes for ground motion modeling of earthquakes.
