About the Opportunity

The social worker will report to the Manager of Child and Adolescent Mental Health & Addiction Services and will share responsibilities with NSHA and CSAP. The social worker will provide school mental health services directly in the school environment within the designated Schools Plus schools (NDA, Cheticamp, and Etoile de L’Acadie, Sydney). The school mental health clinician is a team player and works flexibly to best meet the needs of clients and the service. The clinician can create and provide evidence-based educational presentations to clients, families, other agencies, and staff. Grand rounds presentations are required. Flexibility in hours may be required depending on patient care.

Schools Plus is a collaborative model that is comprehensive and student focused. Partners work together to educate and provide service to the child and their family, with the school as the center of the service. The service will focus on early identification and intervention of mental health disorders for children and adolescents within the school population. The clinician will act as a liaison between the client, school, and mental health services.

About You
  • Master’s degree in a clinical health-related discipline (Masters in Social Work, Psychology (Registered, Masters), Masters in Counseling, Masters in Nursing, Masters in Occupational Therapy)
  • Current registration with relevant provincial regulatory body
  • Two years related clinical experience required (assessment, planning, treatment, intervention and discharge planning)
  • Knowledge of DSM‑V for classification and diagnosis of mental health disorders
  • Experience delivering evidence‑based individual and group therapies for clients with mental illness, substance use disorders, and/or concurrent disorders
  • Ability to collaborate with families and implement family‑sensitive services
  • Skills in crisis intervention, suicide and violence risk assessment/intervention
  • Non‑violent crisis intervention and Suicide Risk Assessment preferred
  • Awareness of community resources and programs
  • Excellent problem‑solving, organizational and prioritization skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks
  • High level of written, oral and interpersonal communication skills; experience with conflict resolution
  • Proficiency in multiple software applications
  • Initiative, independent work with limited supervision, and teamwork
  • French speaking position

Minimum two (2) years of clinical experience required. If not available, candidates with less than two (2) years of experience may be considered for the selection process. If offered employment, they will be placed on the Clinical Therapist (Developmental) scale.

  • Permanent, Full-Time; 75 hours bi‑weekly

Compensation and Benefits

Clinical Therapist: $42.21 – $56.88 hourly

Clinical Therapist (Developmental): $37.64 – $48.72 hourly

Successful candidates may be eligible for our benefits package which includes health, dental, travel, long‑term disability and life insurance coverage as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
