Job summary

The City of Merritt is hiring a casual Facility Operator in the Maintenance Division to help maintain buildings, arenas, and the Aquatic Center. You will perform maintenance tasks, assist with pool testing and chemical handling, and support events with setup and teardown.

The role emphasizes safety, teamwork, and excellent customer service, with the flexibility of an on-call schedule and no guaranteed hours. Valid licenses and relevant certificates strengthen candidacy.

Qualifications

• Building Service Worker Certificate or equivalent required.
• Pool Operations 1 and/or 2 certificates, RSA certification or willingness to obtain certifications.
• A valid Class 5 Driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
• Ability to work cooperatively and amicably in a team environment with a safety-first attitude.
• Working knowledge and training in safe work practices applicable to the work.
• Must have some computer skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform handy-person and repair work such as painting, drywall repairs, ceiling tile replacements, window and gutter cleaning.
• Assist in maintaining the aquatic center by performing standard tests on water and handling pool chemicals safely.
• Provide exceptional customer service to the public and internal/external customers.
• Conduct inspections for maintenance and safety and support events (tables, chairs, audio-visual setup).
• Lifting and carrying heavy objects and handling garbage, recycling and compost.
