You would perform handy‑person and repair work such as painting and drywall repairs, ceiling tile replacements, window and gutter cleaning, moss removal and more. You would assist in maintaining the aquatic center by performing standard tests on water and ensuring the safe handling and storage of pool chemicals. You would consult with and collaborate with the team and facilitate a safe and welcoming environment by providing exceptional customer service to the public and other internal and external customers.

Assigned work may be physically demanding and take place in all weather conditions in a safety‑sensitive environment. Facility Operators take pride in their work and comply with safety standards and safe work procedures, follow policies and protocols and ensure the confidentiality of information. As a Facility Operator, you may also be tasked with lifting and carrying heavy objects (50 lbs+) such as furniture, emptying and transporting garbage, recycling and compost.

Casual employees are scheduled on an as‑needed basis to relieve employees on leaves, vacation, or during peak work periods for overload situations; there are no regularly scheduled hours or guarantee of hours.

  • A Building Service Worker Certificate.
  • Pool Operations 1 and/ or 2 certificates, RSA certification or willingness to obtain certifications.
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
  • Ability to work cooperatively and amicably in a team environment with a safety‑first attitude.
  • Working knowledge and training in safe work practices applicable to the work.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge and skill in methods, tools and equipment, techniques and materials used in general construction, landscaping and maintenance work.
  • Ability to exercise independent action and complete tasks efficiently, report back on outcomes and communicate any unexpected issues and resolutions.
  • Effective interpersonal communication when dealing with others, including the public.
  • Must have some computer skills.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of this position.

For new hires and those working in designated positions of trust, including those working directly with vulnerable persons, employment is conditional on a satisfactory police information check.

This position is open to applicants who have their primary residence located within 50 kms, by road, of the Merritt City Hall building to be regularly and reliably available on an ongoing basis for casual work.

Casual employees are scheduled on an as‑needed basis to provide relief for leaves, vacation, and peak periods; there are no guaranteed hours or schedules.

If you are a safety‑minded individual with a strong work ethic and customer service orientation who takes pride in contributing to a team’s success, we invite you to apply.
