Job summary

University of Waterloo is seeking an IT Technician to support the Faculty of Engineering’s computing needs for staff and students. You will install and troubleshoot IT equipment, manage assets, and assist with network deployments in a dynamic campus environment.

The role emphasizes customer service, ticketing and documentation, with opportunities to work with campus IT teams and contribute to IT projects across the department. This is a 1-year contract/secondment position on the Waterloo campus.

Qualifications

• IT-related degree, diploma, or equivalent certification(s).
• 1+ year experience in maintaining, installing and troubleshooting computers.
• Experience with IT service/helpdesk preferred.
• Strong communication and customer-service skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as hardware specialist for IT equipment installations (desktops, printers, servers, network gear, AV, UPS).
• Provide helpdesk support and process service requests via multiple channels.
• Assist with network documentation, port mapping, and equipment deployment.
• Collaborate with campus IT teams for policy guidance and escalation when needed.
• Maintain equipment and asset management records across the department.
