Job summary

The University of Waterloo is seeking an IT Technician to support computing needs across the Faculty of Engineering. This front-line role focuses on hardware installation, equipment provisioning, and customer service for faculty, staff, graduate and undergraduate students.

Responsibilities include deploying workstations, resolving hardware issues, maintaining asset lifecycle records, and collaborating with networking and IT teams. A one-year term may apply for this temporary position.

Qualifications

• 1+ year of practical experience maintaining, installing and troubleshooting computers and peripherals.
• IT Service Desk or Helpdesk experience preferred.
• Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
• Familiar with Office 365/MS Office suite.
• Ability to prioritize and manage competing priorities in a high-volume environment.
• Experience with Active Directory is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide frontline IT support for faculty, staff and students.
• Install and support IT equipment including desktops, laptops, printers, servers, AV, and more.
• Procure IT equipment from standard supplier list and track assets.
• Maintain asset management and documentation of equipment lifecycle.
• Resolve service requests in a timely manner and route complex issues as needed.
• Assist with network cabling and maintain accurate port documentation.
• Deploy or replace computer workstations and follow up on service tickets.
