Job summary

University of Waterloo is seeking a Research Information Technologies Specialist to support OR information systems and related business processes. You will configure, implement, maintain, and optimize systems that support sponsored research funding, ethics review, and IP processes, working with cross‑campus partners in a dynamic environment.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, strong communication skills, and experience with research systems.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in information systems or related field, or extensive experience.
  • Experience in information systems and project management, preferably in a research environment.
  • Experience leading information systems projects.
  • Strong knowledge of information systems technologies and methodologies.
  • Proven problem‑solving skills with ability to analyze complex situations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication.
  • Professionalism and discretion in stakeholder interactions.
  • Strong organizational skills for multitasking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced: Word, Excel, databases, reporting tools; Intermediate: PowerPoint, MS Project, SharePoint, HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
  • Experience with research systems: InfoEd, Inteum, Pure, Kuali is a definite asset.

Responsibilities

  • Configures, implements, and maintains OR information systems projects supporting goals.
  • Collaborates with the Information Systems Team to ensure efficient development and operation.
  • Ensures systems are configured for consistent workflow and provides statistical data.
  • Monitors system effectiveness and researches tools for optimization.
  • Manages project scope, resources, and timelines with risk assessment.
