The Department of Building Maintenance requires the services of a full-time, continuing Building Maintenance Operator to commence work as soon as possible. Building Maintenance consists of both trades workers and non-trades workers to ensure non-utility building components are regularly inspected and maintained to good quality condition. Reporting to the Manager, Building Maintenance, the Building Maintenance Operator is responsible for performing both work order based and preventative maintenance duties associated with an assigned area on campus. The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Preventative and demand maintenance activities on furniture, buildings, and equipment within assigned facilities.
  • Rooftop inspection, cleaning, and minor repairs.
  • Heavy equipment moving in excess of 2,000 lbs.
  • Minor Patching and Painting of offices.
  • Ceiling Repair – T-bar and drop ceiling install or repair.
  • Floor repair and replacement: ceramic tile, carpet tile, resilient flooring.
  • Assisting with event setup and teardown as required.
  • Working at heights requiring fall protection and mobile aerial lift certification.
  • Pickup / delivery of various items in support of Building Maintenance related activities.
  • Inventory tracking to ensure materials and supplies are available when required.
  • Convocation set up and take down.
  • Responding to flood or other property damage events.

Hours of work are Monday through Friday 08:00 – 16:00, with evening and weekend work occurring on an as needed basis.

Position Qualifications
  • The ideal candidate will have a High School Diploma and a minimum of 3 years related work experience. Possessing a 2-year college certificate in a related field would be considered an asset.
  • The successful candidate will have strong public relations skills and knowledge of safe work practices and procedures in the building maintenance field.
  • Certifications in Personal Fall Protection, Mobile Elevating Work Platform certification, WHMIS , Scaffold Awareness certification, Standard First Aid & CPR C + AED certification are desired.
  • A valid unrestricted Class 5 Driver’s License with no more than 6 demerits and submission of a motor vehicle record (driver abstract) dated within 3 months of the posting close is required.
  • The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory Criminal Record Check.

Starting Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $3,741.00 - $4,163.00 monthly

Full Salary Range (at 1.0 FTE) $3,741.00 - $4,584.00 monthly (AUPE - Grade 7)
