MacEwan University is seeking a Building and Grounds Supervisor for a full-time 5-month replacement term opportunity with our Facilities Operations department.

The Buildings and Grounds Supervisor is responsible for supervising the day-to-day building operations including all general maintenance services as well as the Grounds services at MacEwan University. Your will be responsible for the supervision of all General Services Facility Maintenance Workers as well all Grounds staff. This includes staff scheduling, training, and contractor management of contractors providing services to Facilities Operations and ensuring all safe-work practices are followed.

Key responsibilities include:

• Planning, scheduling and implementing various contracted services for grounds planting, grounds equipment repairs, and cosmetic aspects of interior maintenance including minor repairs and upgrades such as painting;
• Performing monthly audits of quality of contractor work completed, ensuring University standards are being met;
• Supervising and scheduling Operations Facilities Maintenance Workers (FMW’s) to perform preventative maintenance and to respond to service requests received from the Facilities Information Management System FIMS;
• Scheduling staff for event set-ups, providing direction and supervision to Custodial staff assisting with event set-ups;
• Planning and scheduling of Grounds staff to provide a safe and clean campus 7 days per week performing signage and bollard maintenance, graffiti removal, outside garbage collection, lawn care and snow removal;
• Procuring contractors to perform horticultural work, landscaping projects, planning and enhancing the campus grounds landscaping, flower beds and shrub beds;
• Maintaining and managing Facilities QMS (Quality Management System) requirements within the General Services and Grounds department; and
• Holding documented monthly meetings with staff.

Skills

You will have:

• The ability to perform small engine repairs;
• Confidence in performing small engine mechanical tasks;
• The ability to work with FIMS;
• Working knowledge and familiarity with OHS regulations and codes and the ability to enforce them;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) for the effective management of staff and interactions with University staff, students, and public;
• Organizational skills that enhance the managerial role of this position while balancing the prioritization of tasks;
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, PeopleSoft and other applicable programs, as the role requires;
• The ability to schedule staff and manage hours to maintain budget integrity;
• Proficiency in identifying facility and grounds needs and scheduling maintenance;
• The ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records for maintenance, mitigating liability risk for the University;
• Capacity for planning and leading meetings for both training and team building;
• An aptitude for scheduling and monitoring outside contractor work;
• Sound judgement, follow-through and personal accountability during the entire maintenance process for each task; and
• The ability to adapt to changing priorities and communicate these changes in a meaningful way to a team of workers.

Qualifications

• Supervisory Development.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience supervising buildings and/or grounds staff.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience as a building operator or facilities maintenance worker.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience as a grounds worker.
• Working knowledge of unionized environments and following collective agreements.
• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
