Overview

We are seeking a highly motivated Aquatics / Fisheries Biologist Project Manager to join the Vancouver-based team. This position is ideal for a qualified professional who excels at balancing fieldwork, technical reporting and client / project management. You will lead and support a diverse portfolio of freshwater projects with a focus on fish habitat assessments, regulatory permitting, habitat offsetting and monitoring programs.

Responsibilities
  • Lead aquatics and fisheries components of multi-disciplinary environmental projects from initiation to completion.
  • Design and manage field programs including fish and fish habitat assessments, baseline studies, environmental monitoring and effectiveness monitoring.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, impact assessments and regulatory applications (e.g. DFO Request for Review, Provincial Water Sustainability Act notifications and BC EAO submissions).
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, scopes of work and subcontractors.
  • Communicate effectively with clients, Indigenous communities, regulators and internal stakeholders.
  • Mentor junior biologists and provide quality control on deliverables.
  • Support business development activities including proposal preparation and client engagement.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science or a related field.
  • Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience including project management.
  • Registered (or eligible) as a Professional Biologist (RPBio) in British Columbia.
  • Strong understanding of provincial and federal environmental legislation and permitting processes (e.g. Fisheries Act, Water Sustainability Act, Species at Risk Act).
  • Demonstrated experience leading field teams in aquatic and fish habitat assessments.
  • Proficiency with field equipment (e.g. electrofishing, water quality meters, GPS) and data analysis.
  • Strong technical writing, communication and organizational skills.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and ability to travel to field sites.
Assets
  • Experience with habitat offsetting design and implementation.
  • Familiarity with Indigenous consultation processes and co-developed projects.
  • Working knowledge of GIS data visualization tools or statistical software.
  • Experience in construction, environmental management or environmental monitoring.

About the Opportunity

Our client is currently seeking a Senior Biologist to join the team. Preference is for candidates based out of Fort St James, Fort St John, and Prince George, BC. However, we will consider candidates who reside outside of these areas. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: leading and joining field teams in various disciplines (wildlife, birds, fish, aquatic habitat, water quality, vegetation, soils, wetlands, environmental monitoring, sediment, and erosion control); contributing to environmental impact assessments, mitigation plans, and proposals; assisting in preparing and obtaining regulatory approvals for a wide variety of projects such as transportation, renewable energy, mining, oil, and gas. Senior level responsibilities could include field coordination and project management, technical leadership and mentorship, promoting a strong safety culture and working collaboratively within corporate culture.
